Nina's Haven is a small charity that rescues abandoned and often mistreated cats and dogs from Croatia. We have a wonderful vet and her team who treat the animals and rehabilitate them. When the animals are well enough we try to rehome them either in Europe or here in the UK. We run neutering programmes to prevent unwanted puppies and kittens in the town of Vukovar and we run education programmes to try to encourage the local children in responsible pet ownership. We certainly can't change the world, but for each animal we do manage to save, it makes a world of difference for them.

Working Hands (UK, 1150488) Browse events

YTD Raised: £3,167.60

Leprosy is still endemic in many countries. It causes paralysis of hands and feet, weakening grip and impairing dexterity. Many afflicted are destitute, illiterate manual workers whose livelihood depends on what they can dig, carry, haul in a day. For these past 20 years a small team of hand surgeons from the UK has been travelling pro bono first to India and latterly to Nepal to repair and animate such hands. This restores grip, enabling these individuals to earn more, support and educate their families. Equally importantly, the local surgeons are being taught these same techniques and are supplied with instruments and kit to enable them to continue this work long into the future and to teach others. Working Hands Charity receives no regular support from any organisation and depends entirely on donations such as yours. Nobody in the Charity is paid for this work, expertise and time - there are NO overheads. Every penny of donation reaches the front line, funding these biannual trips, currently working in three Nepali hospitals and teaching numerous local surgeons.
