St James Garlickhythe is a Church of England parish in the City of London and under the Diocese of London. The historic church of St James was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1682 following the destruction of the previous building in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Known as Wren's Lantern, it was a landmark for ships approaching the wharves clustered along the north bank of the River Thames In the City of London. Its communion services every Sunday follow the Book of Common Prayer 1662 with readings from the King James Authorised Version of the Bible. We are launching a major appeal towards the restoration and improvement to the fabric and facilities of our historic church - so please give generously to ensure this historic building is preserved for the benefit of London and to continue our Christian mission in the City of London. St James Garlickhythe promotes the whole mission of the church within its parish and includes Sunday worship at 10.30am and Evensong every quarter. A very warm welcome is extended to everyone. The church also provides a sacred space for prayer and contemplation during the week; daily said services; pastoral work; and teaching Christianity through sermons, Sunday School, sacred concerts and events.

Our core aims are: 1. To produce new work Our pioneering programme combines new plays, comedy, cabaret and writers’ development work which is innovative, intelligent, daring and entertaining. 2. To discover and nurture new writers Writers are at the heart of the organisation. Our Writers’ Centre develops groundbreaking writers and artists and promotes the best new theatre writing and dramaturgical practice to the theatre sector both in the UK and abroad. 3. To develop new audiences Our artistic programme, together with a strong education department, engages with London’s global culture attracting a broad and diverse audience. Soho Theatre’s doors are open to all. Encouraging the next generation of theatregoers Soho Theatre’s audience is much young and more diverse than most other theatres. Attracted through our doors by our mixed programme, location and very accessible ticket prices, Soho Theatre is the gateway to a life-long love of theatre. In tandem with our support for emerging artists and young talent, we are helping to ensure a healthy future for this art form we all love. Education at Soho Theatre The Soho Young Company is a programme of artistic activity for young people aged 16 – 25, revolving around a schedule of in-house workshops over three terms, alongside the academic year. These workshops focus on three genres: theatre, cabaret and comedy. Targeting participants aged 16+ who have little experience of the arts, the SYC offers artistic opportunities and enjoyment for all. The bursary programme and our low prices attract a diverse participant demographic. SYC Outreach specifically works with groups from low-income backgrounds in Westminster, Brent and North Kensington providing opportunities to access the arts. Our aim is to work with, and inspire, young people. We provide the young people with opportunities to create new work and raise their aspirations. In the last year, we received a 500% increase in applications from young people wanting to join the courses. As part of buildingwide refurbishment fundraising campaign, a team of Staff members from across the company (with representatives from the Board of Directors to the Front of House Team) are running the Brighton Half Marathon in February 2014.
