YTD Raised: £0.00We are a registered humanitarian aid charity and have been working in Romania since 1991. Our members are mainly hands on building tradespeople who raise their own sponsorship and do not receive any remuneration whatsoever for their work. Our projects started with Orphanages and have progressed as the needs changed. We continually maintain all of our projects. Our projects include an orphanage, two schools, five dispensaries, a street kitchen, a welfare centre for street children, poor families and the disabled and a hospital. Our outreach program is aimed at keeping children out of care and is worked on a very personal basis helped by our medical and educational contacts who actually live within our area of work in Romania. Our help is only limited by sponsorship, the allocation of funds to support individuals is based in advance on a yearly budget to maximise the help that we are able to provide.

Thanks to the generosity of Grundfos a solar pump installation will assist the drought stricken village of Londoni in 2010. In 2009 the Sunderland Royal Hospital donated 140 beds and other generous supporters have enabled the hospital to be solar panelled so half the wards can be lit at night. The Trusts 2010 priorities are: install a water purification unit, complete the hospital infusion unit, solar panel the remaining wards, support poor patients through a food fund, support HIV/AIDS orphans through a health insurance scheme and renew many outdated pieces of hospital equipment.

The charity is a memorial to Edward Newell who died on 21 June 2010. Edward’s strength of character, sense of humour and incredible spirit has left a hole in the hearts of his family and those that knew him. Our love for Edward now finds its voice and inspiration in the formation of a permanent charity whose core aim is to help children and young adults who, like Edward, are diagnosed with ASLD. We also aim to provide support to the families who are struggling to cope with the daily realities of caring for someone with this condition. Please note that the charity will be entirely for the public benefit; costs relating to Edward’s own memorial to commemorate his life do not form part of the charity. HMR&C Charities have accepted The Edward Newell Memorial as a charity for tax purposes under their reference XT26052. Payments received can be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme, the 25% gift aid. The HMR&C Model Declarations for fit and proper persons acting as charity trustees are in place. The Trustees do not expect to incur any administrative charges at this stage, all work being carried on a voluntary basis.
