Every year, many people in Gambia get seriously ill or die due to the lack of primary health care which the country simply can not afford. Many deaths and infections could be prevented with basic up to date knowledge and equipment. In Gambia more than one million people rely on three overstretched government run hospitals for their medical care. The requirement for good First Aid would seem obvious to us, yet access to even basic equipment and training remains poor. First Aid training and supplies can help the Gambians respond to daily health related problems and possible life threatening situations. Now more than ever, we need your help. First Aid 4 Gambia is targeted First Aid training and equipment for staff and helpers at schools and nurseries in Gambia. By donating money or volunteering to run a fund raising event you will help our team continue their valuable work. You could also volunteer to join our outreach team in Gambia for a week or two, where you can help deliver crucial life saving training and equipment to those who need it the most. Since starting in Sept 2009 we have built up to supplying and training 60 schools which have over 12,000 pupils. Every year we put about 600 teachers, assistants and community members through a UK based First Aid course. We also pass on equipment to 4 clinics. We rent a compound which employs 3 full-time Gambian staff and we employ two Gambians whom we have trained to become first aid trainers. We achieve all of this on an annual budget of approx £12,500.

PATCH - Palliation and the Caring Hospital is the first charity to specifically support specialist Palliative Care for patients in Hospitals. 55% of people die in Hospital and there is nothing more reassuring than a Doctor who can talk to you about your symptoms as accurately as you can. A number of recent reports found the care of patients in hospital who were very ill or dying, to be wanting. Only a minority of patients who could benefit from quality palliative care receive it. We are all diminished unless there is urgent improvement. PATCH was formally launched at a Civic Reception held by The Dundee Lord Provost at the City Chambers on 2nd June 2014.
