(UK, xt36236) Browse eventsHussein was sadly taken away from us on the 17th Feb 2012. Hussein had a huge passion for life. He possessed an exceptionally warm personality with an immense amount of energy which he put into his friends and family and all that he cared about. Hussein participatied in charity events wherever he was able to. His very first salary from his Saturday job at Hamleys contriibuted towards an annual school bus fare of an orphaned boy. At 11 years of age, he arranged a movie event at school and donated the proceeds to Unicef; the list is endless... Hussein would have wanted nothing more than to be remembered through helping others. Therefore, where we are able to, Hussein's friends and family will endeavour to make a difference in some small way to support the types of causes which Hussein would have supported. The charity has been in place for last two years, causes supported include :- a)Provision of rice, flour, sugar and oil packs to be distributed amongst 300 families in India (June 2013)b)Payment of school fees for 5 orphaned girls in Gujarat who are academically very able but economically not. With our support, the girls are hoping to pursue careers in Medicine, Physiotheraphy and Nursing. These girls, once educated will set an example in their community and create the desire and hope for many other children in similar siutations. Future Projects: Whilst we will continue with the above projects, we are also organising a day out for number of orphaned children in India to a 'theme park'. Through goverment funding and donations they receive the basics i.e. food, clothes but to go to a theme park would be 'out of this world'. We want to make this come true for them for two reasons; it would be an amazing experience for them. Also this type event will be a fitting tribute to our fun-loving son, Hussein. Hussein's short life was a testament to the saying 'A man who dares to waste one hour has not discovered the value of life' (by Charles Darwin) We will miss him terribly always and forever but we understand that he was a precious gift in our lives. "Inna Lillahi wasinna ilaihi raji 'un" Surely we belong to God and to him shall we return.

Around 20,000 people claim asylum in the UK each year and over two thirds are initially rejected. "Failed" asylum-seekers may be left totally destitute: not allowed to work and receiving no state benefits, they struggle to stay alive with the help of friends or faith groups. The London Churches Refugee Fund was set up in response to the needs of organisations meeting at the London Churches Refugee Network (LCRN). LCRN members range from individual churches assembling food parcels to large drop-in centres offering a range of services, advice and counselling. Though they achieve miracles with gifts in kind and volunteer help, some essential items need cash. The Fund was set up to help and launched at Westminster Abbey in June 2007. Our funds are restricted to those who are destitute. In 2012 we provided over £15,000 in small grants to more than 20 organisations. Even small sums can literally be life-savers for destitute refugees. Please help by making a donation to this work. Charity No: 1121108 Find out more Website http://www.help4refugees.co.uk
