Syston Methodist Church is working, alongside others, for transformed lives & community in Syston. Currently we are raising money to turn part of our buildings into a Community Hub, the first goal for the Community Hub is to be used as a Youth Cafe. The need in Syston is huge as there is a complete lack of places for young people in the evenings. The Community Hub requires a new entrance and the toilets reconfiguring so that the new entrance can lead directly into what is currently our small hall. We have the design, we have planning permission and are working on building regulations. We have some grants and are looking for more. However, we are still short of quite a few thousand pounds. Every donation will take us closer to our goal of providing a fantastic new resource for our community.
Horbury Churches Together began in 2004 with Anglicans,Methodists, Salvation Army and Evangelical Christians forming an alliance. HCT has since 2004 had a paid worker, working then mainly with 11 to 16 year olds. In 2008 the Trustees decided to apply for a Big Lottery grant to expand the Youth work. In August 2009 we were awarded a Big Lottery grant of £296,000 this enabled us to additionally appoint a Senior Youth Worker and a part time administrator and to open a state of the art office in the Methodist Church. The project is overseen by the Trustees but managed by a Youth Management Committee with officers shadowing the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary of HCT. There are regular monthly meetings with the elected officers and representatives giving their reports, organising events and allocating funds to specific youth activities and purchasing. The Youth Management Committee consists of 55% young people under 25 years of age and work together with the Trustees under the "Here by Rights National" framework. As part of the Lottery Grant agreement and to continue our ever growing Young Christians part of the project, we need to raise over £20,000 per annum. This is undertaken by members of the Church Congregations and Youth Volunteers in a variety of ways. The objectives of our Lottery Grant include our providing fitness and sporting opportunities for enjoyment and the setting up of lunch time groups in the local High School to assist students with behavioural and interactive skills, teenage lifestyle groups and "Experience" events.
