(UK, 1087444) Browse eventsEstablished in 1997, this unique talented registered charitable organisation strives to offer the best possible training and work opportunities for people with learning difficulties. The charity has strong links with the local community forming partnerships with employers, colleges, training providers and the local authority. It has built an enviable reputation, delivering high quality services and obtaining excellent results in both training and work opportunities. The Osborne Partnership is committed to supporting people with learning difficulties in their quest for integration and acceptance in the world of work. Accredited Vocational Training: Through training, our partners (beneficiaries with learning difficulties) learn work based vocational skills but emphasis is also placed on gaining transferable skills that open up further employment opportunities following the completion of courses. The accredited training programmes cover areas such as health & safety, manual handling, COSHH and safe operations of tools and machinery. The new skills that partners acquire, help to build confidence and communication, assisting with their integration in the wider community. We have just launched our “Building a Brighter Tomorrow” Campaign to help raise funds to build a new state of the art environmentally friendly building. This will enable the Osborne Partnership to continue and expand the highly valued services and projects in the future. There are many ways you can help support the Osborne Partnership: Please call Ian on Tel: 020 8592 5742 for more information.
(UK, 1064469) Browse eventsThe object of the Bansang Hospital Appeal is to provide material, financial and in-kind support to Bansang Hospital and the people of the surrounding area. The projects focus area is the Upper River Division of The Gambia, West Africa. The hospital serves 500,000 people, many of whom travel from as far as Mali, Guinea and Senegal. The Bansang Hospital Appeal assists through the ongoing provision of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian aid, along with the sponsorship of staff and volunteers from the UK. The appeal has recently constructed a new 80 bed children’s unit, 48 bed female ward and the hospitals own maintenance team have constructed an obstetric theatre. Retention of staff is an urgent requirement and the key to the ongoing success of the hospital. We are addressing this urgent need in phases, with the current capital expenditure projects focussing upon the provision of decent staff accommodation. To this end, we have refurbished 27 staff units, along with the complete renovation of the old colonial house that sits on the hospital land. The latter facility now provides bedsitting and guest rooms for staff and visiting volunteers, as well as conferencing facilities for visiting professionals. The charity places a keen emphasis upon long-term project sustainability.

The charity was formed by returned volunteers with much experience in Africa. The ethos of the charity is to commit to the local people of a particular area (we've started in Sitima, rural malawi) and work with them to meet a number of pressing needs over a period of time. We identify this locality as somewhere with very little in the way of support from the larger international agencies. Activities have included so far: mosquito net distribution, training, teaching supplies and mentorship, english teaching, emergency post flood relief, hygiene sessions and more...

Our highly committed and experienced team are qualified in the field of substance misuse and provide a friendly and supportive environment to assist and aid recovery for those suffering with alcohol problems. Why West Essex community needs us: ADAS understands the impact that alcohol misuse can have on both the individual and their family, we therefore work offer services to support the family as well as the person with the problem. Whilst offering support and 1:1 counselling to the client, we also provide a recovery activity day care programme that clients are able to access giving structure to their day and aiding recovery. “My drinking was so out of control that I was not safe to be around my children. I was frequently in and out of hospital having attempted suicide whilst drunk. The most scary thing was that I was in total denial of how bad things had got and how it was affecting the children. Without ADAS I would be dead, the help and support they gave to me and my family was what turned my life around. I have been sober for over two years and my children received support from Elise (child therapist) to be able to deal with the psychological damage my drinking behaviour caused. I now get involved in supporting other alcoholics as I have first hand experience of the dreadful chaos it causes in a family. I am just grateful to be alive and that my children came through the nightmare (Client, September 2013). www.adasuk.org
