Age UK Exeter is an independent, autonomous charity governed by a locally elected board of trustees. We have been meeting the wants and needs of older people in Exeter for over 25 years. We employ 125 dedicated staff and are supported by 250 regular volunteers who give their time, skills and enthusiasm so generously each week to make a difference for older people in the city. They are resource of which Exeter should be hugely proud. All the funds we raise directly benefit older people and their families in Exeter. We provide over 38 different activities, groups and services from Tai Chi and computer classes to supporting people with dementia illnesses. We support 1000 older people every week. We work in every ward in Exeter. Last year we helped local older people achieve over £500,000 in additional health related benefits which help maintain independence and well-being. We don’t just react to need, we are committed to preventing isolation, loneliness, poverty and poor health and finally, we are completely independent and responsible for all our own fund raising through charitable trust applications, community fund raising activities and the generous donations of local people.

It sits in 5 acres of its own grounds overlooking Loch Linnhe in an area of outstanding beauty. Since it’s establishment in 1998 HopScotch has enabled over 4000 different children to have a break at Ardvullin and the number has increased steadily year on year, from 100 in 1999 to over 350 in 2012. In 2013 we plan to provide 348 disadvantaged children, who have no other chance of a break away from their problems, with a week at Ardvullin. Using the HopScotch bus we collect children and user organisation staff from their home area on a Monday and return them back on a Friday.  During their stay at Ardvullin children are given the chance to participate in a planned programme of educational and fun activities such as horse riding, canoeing, indoor climbing and mountain biking.   They also visit local beaches, nature reserves and marine, wildlife and heritage centres. They learn about the countryside and seaside and about team work, tolerance and social and practical skills all in a supportive and caring environment. Children leave Ardvullin with an increased ability to address their own problems and overcome the hurdles they face in their everyday lives.   GOOD CHILDHOOD MEMORIES LAST A LIFETIME

Larchfield Charity Organisation (UK, 8915453) Browse events

YTD Raised: £3,231.77

In 2012, Larchfield Charity Organisation was established by James Berry working together with a philanthropic Tanzanian group as a Tanzanian charitable entity. Larchfield’s objective is to serve the desperate plight of the increasing numbers of Tanzanian orphans and children who have been abandoned by their parents and other family members through disease, or other incapacity to maintain the family unit. At present, there are only limited facilities in place in Tanzania to care for and educate these children in a suitable environment. A few children – if they are fortunate enough to be taken in by a foster family – only enjoy a second class status which involves being subordinate to and working for their host family. Other children, who are unable to find a foster family, are effectively abandoned, have to fend for themselves, and too often become victims of abuse. In Mkuranga district, one hour south of Dar-es-Salaam, there are numerous children in this position. The community and local government presently lack the resources to remedy the situation. To serve the needs of this district, it was decided to register a children’s home and school called ‘Larchfield’, to serve as a happy, safe and secure environment for Tanzanian children in need. The objective is to build and operate a purpose-built children’s home and school for children aged 3-16 years.
