(UK, 1134990) Up to 176 million Indian children are estimated to lack adequate care and protection, as they struggle to survive on the fringes of India's economic explosion - a number equivalent to well over twice the total population of the UK. Millions of children lead desperately difficult lives in appalling conditions, reminiscent of the poverty of Victorian London but on a subcontinental scale. Friends of Salaam Baalak Trust UK (FoSBT) believes that children in the 21st century should not suffer from such a gross lack of opportunity, and works towards easing the pain, leveling the playing field and igniting the potential of as many as possible of these modern-day Oliver(ia) Twists.

The Trust was set up to help raise money for children and adults with disabilities and since inception has gone from strength to strength. Our Mission Statement: "To support such general charitable purpose as the trustees in their absolute discretion may determine for those who are socially and economically disadvantaged, in particular but not exclusively to provide financial support for education, to provide transport facilities for persons who have a special need of such facilities because they are elderly, poor, disabled, people with young children or those living in isolated areas where there are no adequate public transport facilities and to provide support to children with disabilities and organisations providing hospice and care services to children." All proceeds are donated towards various charities including Parkwood Hall, Threshers Day Nursery, Northlands (Multiple Sclerosis Society), Demelza Hospice, Burgess Autistic Trust, Marlborough School to name but a few and over the last year we have started our challenge of donating 100 new school minibuses to local schools.
