We exist to relieve poverty and advance education and health in the West Midlands region. We aim to achieve this by educating the public in all matters of health and safety and hazards, in the workplace and in the environment, and by providing support and assistance to those engaged in promoting health and safety in the workplace. Our main work currently involves Asbestos Support West Midlands. This project exists to help those suffering from asbestos related diseases and to campaign for the strictest possible enforcement of regulations and legislation to protect current workers and communities. We provide free and confidential help and advice via : a telephone helpline, website information, newsletters and bulletins and through home visits or office appointments. All funds donated through this site will be used to support the work of Asbestos Support West Midlands.

DOUBLE DONATION WEEKSCP was established in 1999 by a group of parents of children with learning disabilities. They discovered that they had common concerns around what would happen to their children when they, the parents, were no longer able to look after them. FOR ONE WEEK ONLY we have organised for a group of generous benefactors to make pledges to match POUND FOR POUND every penny donated to the Project up to a maximum of £10,000. We now support over 150 adults with learning disabilities across Notts and we are desperately in need of funds particularly to support our new base in Mansfield and to keep our work going. PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY as we will not get an opportunity like this again for a long time. THANK YOU

To provide residential activity holidays for children in Year 6 who are in social or economic need. Giving children holidays to remember, interacting in a healthy way with adults and other children in a safe, caring atmosphere. Summers Trust provide holidays so that children can experience new activities in an environment that will encourage team building and communication skills. The holidays help to instil self confidence, self reliance and improve the self esteem of the children while providing them with lifelong memories. With a proven holiday formula, developed with over 25 years experience, we help these children, from multi-ethnic backgrounds, to form relationships with each other, with adults and young adults at a very important stage in their life; the transition from primary to secondary education. This gives them a renewed self-assurance upon returning to their families and new school life. The holidays also assist in respite care for families who may have issues regarding childcare, thus enabling them to refocus on other matters concerning the family. The staffing of the holidays is on a voluntary basis and is a mixture of experienced volunteers and young adults, new to child care. The Trustees and experienced volunteers have significant backgrounds in the education sector, from classroom teachers through to retired head teachers. This enables the new volunteers to develop their skills and encounter learning situations that are directly related to managing the care of children. The holidays therefore have a dual role: To enrich the lives of children in need of such a holiday and to enable young volunteers to contribute to their local community.

Raise a Glass for older LGBT Londoners! They fought for our freedoms - we owe them a drink! Opening Doors London (ODL) provides a range of services for older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* Londoners. ODL supports almost 1000 older LGBT people each year. A large proportion of our funding is coming to an end in April 2014, meaning we will no longer be able to support the most vulnerable members of the community. With your support we can ensure this doesn’t happen. Help us out – by donating the equivalent of a price of a drink! Sign up here to donate £5 (or whatever you can afford!) each month to help us keep these vital services going. "These days, young gay people are encouraged to be open about their sexuality. Older ones, particularly those who don’t have a partner, can find it difficult to share in the new freedom. They are no longer criminalised, but this doesn’t mean that they are free from discrimination in public places. Some are understandably still fearful of verbal and physical abuse. This is what makes Opening Doors older LGBT project so vital for those it reaches. It’s an initiative which needs to be spread across London, and then the rest of the country, wherever older gay people feel isolated” Sir Ian McKellan Did you know that LGBT older people are twice as likely to live alone as their heterosexual peers and are 3 times more likely to have suffered mental health problems? Feelings of isolation and discrimination are commonly felt by older LGBT people, particularly those receiving care, be it residential or in the community. Care providers rarely acknowledge the existence of non heterosexual service users and most do not train their staff appropriately to deal with these issues. This is where Opening Doors London is trying to fill the void in support for LGBT people in the community. Opening Doors London not only provides an opportunity for isolated older LGBT members to attend social groups it also provides a range of support services and events encompassing all aspects of life from counselling and home visits, to community safety and a dedicated newsletter; all of these form an important lifeline which Opening Doors London users have come to rely on. Our aim is to expand the services offered to the users and also the geographical area in which these services are available.
Approximately 2,500 children with Down syndrome are born in Russia every year. On the average 80% of the parents abandon their babies due to the outdated medical and social views about their abilities. Families raising children with Down syndrome suffer from a lack of educational and social support, but most of all they suffer from society’s negative attitudes. Opened in 1997 in Moscow, Downside Up started working on improving the quality of life and increasing equal opportunities for Russian children with Down syndrome. Today over 4000 families from Russia and ex-Soviet countries are registered in the free of charge programmes of Downside Up. We provide information to the parents of children with learning disabilities about how best to care for their child. We promote the integration of children with learning disabilities, especially by promoting integrated kindergartens and by supporting parents in finding educational placements for their children. We elaborate new technologies of Early Intervention for children with Down syndrome based on a Western approach and our experience. We write, translate and distribute literature and information packs to foster increased awareness and acceptance of learning disabilities within the community. We raise awareness amongst the medical profession in maternity hospitals, children’s clinics and medical Universities about about the benefits of raising children with learning disabilities at home. Every month about 95 new families join the free of charge programmes of Downside Up. We need your support!

St. Yared's Trust supports The School of St. Yared, an educational blue print for eradicating poverty in deprived communities in Addis Ababa. The school provides some of the highest quality education available in Ethiopia and comprehensive pastoral care to children living in extreme poverty. The objective is to create impactful leaders with the skills to improve their own life chances, to lead their communities out of poverty and to contribute to the Ethiopian economy. Our Children. The parents/carers of our children are for the most part illiterate and unskilled earning as day labourers. They live in a constant state of food, work and shelter insecurity. Children have to make a contribution to the household from a very young age. There is little or no healthcare, malnutrition and disease is common, and many of the children have suffered severe emotional traumas. Without our help education for these children is unsustainable. Our funds are limited and we must ensure they are used effectively. We select bright children from those most in need. We take only one child per family so as to spread the benefit widely, gain a larger audience for our community social programmes, and ensure greater community involvement for our school activities. The Education. The Pastoral Care. Without this package education for these children is unsustainable. The Goal. The school's work has not gone unrecognised. They have been given 4 parcels of land for development. There are currently 217 children on the roll. The goal is to have 1000 in 10 years. Please Donate. Help us to expand, to transform more children's lives, and to eradicate poverty in their communities.
