Thank you for visiting our page! Simeon Care for the Elderly is a Camphill charity in Aberdeen providing a care home to older people with dementia, disabilities and age related frailties who can no longer manage in their own homes. Simeon’s philosophy of care, compassion and companionship supports older people to have an active, meaningful and purposeful life in a community of care. We opened up our doors in June 1984 and we have supported many older people since then.  Today, we have 18 very special people living with us and we are building them a new home specificially designed for older people who need a high standard of care. The new development is being built on site and when its finished spring 2015, it will feature 23 en-suite bedrooms and a dementia-friendly garden.  This project will enable Simeon to support more of our elderly community in an environment which promotes independence and well-being.  It will also provide families with peace of mind knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a nurturing and loving environment by a charity renowned for its exceptionally high quality care.

Yarl's Wood Befrienders (UK, 1111454) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Yarls Wood is an Immigration Removal Centre in North Bedfordshire, which detains women and families. The Befrienders, as an independent charity based in Bedford, provides much-needed support to anyone held in Yarls Wood who requests it. Through the simple act of visiting and listening, we try to restore self-esteem and reaffirm a basic sense of human dignity. Being held at Yarl’s Wood can be a traumatic experience, especially as detainees do not know how long they are likely to stay there, or whether they will be eventually released or returned to their country of origin. As well as offering emotional support, we also try to give practical help where we can. Many of those leaving Yarl’s Wood will be returning to places where they face immediate danger, or countries they left long ago. They often return to great uncertainty, sometimes with little more than the clothes on their backs. We have a small destitution fund to support people leaving Yarl’s Wood and the money raised through your donations will be used to help replenish this vital source of help. If you know of anyone in Yarls Wood who is in need of befriending support, please do contact us.  Thank you very much for your generosity.

This assistance is sometimes financial, is sometimes opening up access to opportunities, and is sometimes developing new opportunities. With the ultimate objectives being simple, we look to improve the quality of life of those individuals and communities that benefit from a lift up to allow themselves to overcome issues of poverty.  Based within the United Kingdom our reach is Global, with current key projects being undertaken within the Maasai community in Kenya. It is a pre-requisite for all projects that we support that it must be individually or community led by those affected, not led by the charity. Access to our services is for the benefit solely of those communities who want to lead themselves, we supply the means, knowhow and project management. All the money raised goes directly to the causes we work with. Not a penny is wasted. We are guided by strong ethics to ensure there is no personal financial gain from any of the team.

Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate. We sponsor research to bring about change in how women and girls are dealt with in the criminal justice system. There are many women in prison, either on remand waiting to go to court or serving sentences for minor, non-violent offences, for whom prison is both disproportionate and inappropriate. Many of them suffer poor physical and mental health or substance abuse, or both. Large numbers have endured violent or sexual abuse or had chaotic childhoods. Many have been in care. Men and women are different and with a system almost entirely geared towards men, we need to radically change how we deal with women throughout the whole criminal justice system. For over ten years the Society’s Research Fellowships have turned a spotlight on how women and girls are treated to bring about much needed change. From 25th June, our Director is rowing 171 miles down the Thames to raise funds for the charity. Follow her progress on twitter (@mascltd) and please sponsor her row. mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/christineannleeson1 Charity No: 1034571 Find out more Website http://www.thegriffinssociety.org Twitter https://twitter.com/mascltd

FRIENDS OF LERATONG (UK, XR70168) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Belfast priest Kieran Creagh has been working in some of the poorest parts of south Africa for the past 15 years. In this time he has been working very closely with the poor and the sick in the townships around Pretoria. It was during his time in these townships that Kieran became more and more aware of the need for a facility in the township where people could go for proper care and attention during their illness, most of which were terminal. He also recognized the need for a place that could bring care and attention out to the community, where it was desperately needed. Also a place that could provide respite for the families and carers of the sick. Having worked in hospices back at home in Ireland, Kieran knew that this was what was desperately needed within the township. 6 years ago Kieran set about fulfilling his dream of building a hospice, and today that dream is a reality. A fully functioning 20 bed hospice in the township of Atteridgeville, Pretoria, named LERATONG (Where there is love). This has been achieved by raising funds back home, in Ireland. Also by staffing it locally with retired nurses and doctors working voluntarily. The ‘Friends of Leratong’ is a registered charity trust set up to raise funds on an ongoing basis for this much needed facility. We run various events through the year. Thank you for your support and for ongoing support. Yours sincerely, Paul Creagh Chairperson Friends of Leratong Trust.

The Guatemalan Families Association (UK, 1105241) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Guatemalan Families Association (GFA) is a charity for families living in Britain who have adopted or are in the process of adopting children from Guatemala. Our primary goal is to support internationally adopted Guatemalan children to connect with their Guatemalan roots. We also support two Guatemalan NGO's. The history of violence against indigenous populations, natural disasters, poverty, and illiteracy can best be dealt with in partnership with Guatemalans. Behrhorst projects promote self-sufficiency, foster community development, and enhance the education and health of people working to make a better life for their children and communities. Pueblo a Pueblo projects respond to the devastating poverty and deprivation in targeted indigenous villages. Projects work to build the community’s ability to thrive on its own while achieving health, food security, and education for local families. Many GFA families have visited the villages where these two charities are working. They have seen the difference our contributions make. Together, we will make the struggle to survive and be productive a little easier. Charity No: 1105241 Find out more Website http://www.gfa-uk.org/drupal/
