It’s time to think Mission statement: Tackle Child Poverty Promote Equality Stimulate Children Encourage Participation Poverty can have a profound impact on the child, their family, and the rest of society. Young Carers Together (UK, 1159224) Browse events

YTD Raised: £10.00

Young Carers are the unsung heroes in our communities. This wonderful group of children grow up too fast, often missing out on the basics we take for granted.  By providing activities and fun days we aim to give Young Carers a chance to have a break from their caring role and have some fun. They also have the opportunity to spend time and talk with other Young Carers which allows them to discuss their caring role knowing they won't be judged and that there are other Young Carers in a similar situation to them.  We hope the activities and fun breaks we provide can be the beginning of a passion we have, to provide regular support, over the coming months and years and to have a lasting effect by building resilience and creating memories for Young Carers. The service Young Carers provide to society is often underestimated or taken for granted. We are here to try to make sure they have the time and opportunity to be children. We support Young Carers between the ages of 8 and 24.

Simeon’s philosophy of care, compassion and companionship supports older people to have an active, meaningful and purposeful life in a community of care. We opened up our doors in June 1984 and we have supported many older people since then.  Today, we have 18 very special people living with us and we are building them a new home specificially designed for older people who need a high standard of care. The new development is being built on site and when its finished spring 2015, it will feature 23 en-suite bedrooms and a dementia-friendly garden.  This project will enable Simeon to support more of our elderly community in an environment which promotes independence and well-being.  It will also provide families with peace of mind knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a nurturing and loving environment by a charity renowned for its exceptionally high quality care.

Yarl's Wood Befrienders (UK, 1111454) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Yarls Wood is an Immigration Removal Centre in North Bedfordshire, which detains women and families. The Befrienders, as an independent charity based in Bedford, provides much-needed support to anyone held in Yarls Wood who requests it. Through the simple act of visiting and listening, we try to restore self-esteem and reaffirm a basic sense of human dignity. Being held at Yarl’s Wood can be a traumatic experience, especially as detainees do not know how long they are likely to stay there, or whether they will be eventually released or returned to their country of origin. As well as offering emotional support, we also try to give practical help where we can. Many of those leaving Yarl’s Wood will be returning to places where they face immediate danger, or countries they left long ago. They often return to great uncertainty, sometimes with little more than the clothes on their backs. We have a small destitution fund to support people leaving Yarl’s Wood and the money raised through your donations will be used to help replenish this vital source of help. If you know of anyone in Yarls Wood who is in need of befriending support, please do contact us.  Thank you very much for your generosity.
