Last year, Luton Samaritans answered 24,432 calls for help. Samaritans was the first 24-hour telephone helpline in the world and has answered over 115 million calls for help since it took its first call in 1953. The charity now has 20,980 volunteers across the UK and ROI who answer more than five million calls every year. We need your help to survive another 60 years.  We are available 24 hours a day, 356 days a year to provide confidential, emotional support to people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

North London Cares is a community network recruiting young professionals and students to offer a little extra time, practical support, social connection and human companionship to their older neighbours in Camden and Islington. We create one-to-one interactions to combat lonliness, and regular group activities for people to come together who may not normally interact, improving lives and health outcomes and bridging generational and social divides.  Our Love Your Neighbour programme matches individual volunteers with just a little spare time to older neighbours who would benefit from a little companionship. Meanwhile, our Social Clubs - such as Film Nights, Storytelling Nights, Cooking Sessions, Concert Trips, Afternoon Tea Sessions and Games Clubs - provide a chance for people to share skills, experiences and cultural exchange. In 30 months, 700 North London Cares volunteers and 750 older neighbours have enjoyed over 325 Social Clubs, 20,000 interactions and 2,000 meals. A donation of £20 can help finance our next Social Club. £50 will help pay for a Cooking Session and meals for 10 isolated people. And a donation of £100 will enable us to host a major event for up to 40 of our neighbours to share time and new experiences with our volunteers.

All care is provided for free and as a registered charity the Hospice relies on the support of the community to help fund their work.

The Chilli Children Trust supports a project for children with disabilities in Rukungiri, Uganda. This Project was set up in 1995 by the North Kigezi Diocese of the Church of Uganda as a Christian response to the problems faced by orphaned and disabled children and their families. Regular surveys are carried out in remote areas to identify disabled children and provide them with access to: A chilli growing scheme which provides much needed income for families; Monthly clinics for children who need physio or occupational therapy, providing support for parents and carers, and teaching them to help their child develop sitting, feeding and walking skills; Surgical help for children with cleft palates, burn injuries, orthopaedic conditions and neurological conditions; Clinics for children with club foot, epilepsy, and visual problems; Support with education for deaf and disabled children, and sign language training for families.
