For each young person to have the opportunity to make the most of their unique potential To help young people practically develop their skills and inner strengths for real world success For 20 years Keyfund have been helping young people to make the most of their worlds and be the very best they can be. Keyfund taps into young people's individuality, curiosity and creativity as they dream up their very own project ideas and make them happen for real. Keyfund's brilliantly simple model strikes that sweet spot between freedom and structure, creating the perfect environment for young people to learn and flourish. Motivated by their passions and interests, young people are committed to see their project ideas through from start to finish. Every year thousands of young people get together as a team of friends to 'Think', 'Plan' and 'Do' their Keyfund projects. They're each supported by a trained facilitator and work on their projects whenever and wherever they choose. When young people challenge themselves, they can achieve amazing things and this makes them feel fantastic. Over the last year teams: launched a T-shirt business; kayaked around the British Isles; did an underwater litter pick; sent hundreds of football boots to Africa; and designed and made a huge sculpture. One group even recorded and album which secured them a gig at a local festival. But it's not just the projects Keyfund are interested in. The most important thing is the skills and inner strengths young people develop along the way. Keyfund have 12 skills that they ask young people to focus on and develop as they go on their Keyfund journeys. These skills are the building blocks for future success. When you couple them with the inner strengths like confidence and self-awareness, young people can use them to follow their passions, build their own lives and make the most of their unique potential.
This foundation has been set up in memory of James Ahern. Its aim is to support young people who are struggling to achieve their goals, whatever they might be, whether through a lack of resources or through some physical or mental hurdle. A particular emphasis will be on supporting young people with mental health or addiction issues and young people who have an ambition that they require help to achieve. In addition, the foundation will support projects that encourage young people to get involved in charitable work and who aim to provide kindness and compassion. In short, the foundation wishes to "enable the pursuit of passion". For more information please visit www.jamesahernfoundation.org or like us on Facebook.
