Welcome to 1st Heworth (York) Scout Group 1st Heworth Scout Group offers scouting to young people in the Heworth and Tang Hall areas of York. We cater for all young people between 6 and 18 and provide them with a wide varied programme of activities to enable them to achieve badges and awards. They have a chance to participate in adventurous activities, learn lifelong skills, experience leadership and make friends. In fact, 1st Heworth is one of a few remaining Scout Groups that teaches its young members traditional camp craft skills. Our scouts can attend six camps each year which range from just a weekend to a full week. Here they learn to work in a patrol and build their own mini campsite. Whether it be full fried breakfasts or homemade fish and chips with apple crumble and custard everything is cooked over open wood fires. Here at 1st Heworth, we are always welcoming new members of all ages. Westwood High is Oldham’s first Muslim Secondary School for girls located in the heart of the Westwood area of Oldham. The school opened its doors to 3 girls aged 11 years in February 2012. There are now almost a hundred girls on roll. We are hoping to expand our educational offer to include Early Years provision for 3-5 year olds and Key Stage 1 starting in September 2015. The aim is to become an 'Outstanding' institution providing education from 3 to 19 over a number of years.

The Jimmy Mizen Foundation has been set up as a positive way of remembering the life of Jimmy Mizen who was tragically murdered in May 2008. Our principal aim is to help young people, up to the age of 24, play a positive role within their communities as independent and responsible individuals. The Foundation has already made significant progress in raising finance to support local scouting organizations and arranging apprenticeship placements with Leathermarket tenant management organization. We have further set up our Awareness Project that addresses audiences of young people, parents and teachers in schools, prisons and youth clubs to promote anger management, stress awareness and the consequences of violent crime.
Hippotherapy Northumberland is a community club enabling children and young adults with disabilities to participate in therapeutic sport. Hippotherapy is 'technically' a therapeutic input using the movement, warmth, conformation and nature of the horse to effect changes in the 'rider' atop. Improvements seen in participants include an increase in physical functional ability, emotional and psychological well-being, and in their ability to communicate and interact. Through a holistic, integrated community approach we aim for an improvement in quality of life experience for our young people and their families.
