YTD Raised: £31.50

Million Minutes enables youth action and advocacy, giving voice and support to young people (aged up to 25) to transform their lives and their world. That's because young people's energy and vibrancy is astonishing. We have faith in young people.  We want a world in which young people are recognised and supported to transform their lives and their world so that all may have a life of dignity. We do this by supporting activities inspired by Catholic socail teaching (CST), that give voice and encouragement to young people.  Million Minutes Big Silence and siLENT, combine the powerful witness of silence with speaking up for the ‘voiceless’ and overlooked.  At the same time we provide a way to raise financial sponsorship for young people. We respond to areas of need by funding projects. We're completely convinced that young people can take their place in society, so we're supporting youth leadership projects all over England and Wales, as well as projects which help young people who are overlooked and vulnerable, so they can transform their lives. We want to help young people go further still. We to celebrate the amazing contribution young people make. The Celebrating Young People Awards honour the achievements of those truly remarkable young people who make our communities and our world a better place. Nominated by anyone from friends and family to teachers and clergy, the winners are drawn from throughout England and Wales and reflect achievements in every area of social action. Their achievements are an inspiration for us all. They show us all how ordinary young people can do the most extraordinary things.

The 2013 Santa Fun Run will take place on Sunday 1st December.  In December Santa’s Sleigh will again be seen on the streets of Skipton, the surrounding villages and in local supermarkets with members collecting money for local and international charities. These include the Rotary International Charity “Shelter Box” as well as the local Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and North Yorkshire’s Martin House Children’s Hospice. The Rotary Club also sponsors holiday breaks for carers, and young people to take part in residential leadership courses both on land and on sailing ships at sea. The Club takes a lead role in organizing and supporting annual competitions for the youth like the Young Chef Competition and the Schools’ Technology Tourmament.  The Rotary motto of “Service above Self” is the inspiration for Club members to support the local community by, for example, helping out at Ashfield House residential home and by working with primary schools throughout Craven to raise money for the Shelter Box Charity.
