Callum Smith Trust (UK, EW15367) Browse events

YTD Raised: £1,006.00

Callum's Adventure's   2016 Young Callum Smith is like any other 9 year old boy, full of fun, life and adventure. He has such a cheeky and extremely loveable nature that you cannot help but fall in love with. His passion and absolute determination to achieve what he sets out to do is truly inspirational. Callum and his family give hope that despite the horror that they live they never give up the fight for a full and fun life.   What makes Callum different is that he sadly suffers with an extremely rare and severe form of Muscular Dystrophy, Duchennes. This is a serious progressive muscle weakness that will eventually weaken his lungs and heart muscles and cause premature death by his mid to late twenties. Callum has continual assessment health checks and physiotherapy but eventually will become locked in his own body. I cannot stress to you how deeply upsetting this is to watch Callum deteriorate, the reality of what this young boy faces is soul destroying.  Callum's passion is for outdoor sports, he attends all cub scout camps and literally throws himself in to all of the activities. He has fought against the need for a wheelchair for some time but eventually everyday things that we take for granted have become too much for him. The wheelchair that Callum currently uses provides basic support for general day to day living. It is our intention to raise £15000 to provide Callum with an all terrain wheelchair that will enable him to not only use daily but to continue with his passion for the outdoors. This chair will ensure that Callum is able to keep up with some of the normality of life, inclusion in school sports day activities, not just be able to attend Cub Scout camps but to also partake in the activities like his friends. This will enhance Callum's life, enable him to continue a full life and bring happiness and smiles to a family that are facing a very daunting path.
