Special Olympics is part of the world's largest programme of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with learning disabilities. It currently serves over 8000 athletes who participate in local sports programmes, then regional, national and international competitions. The National Games are held every 2 years alternating between summer and winter games and then World Games every 4 years. The Special Olympics City of York committee was established in 2007. We are made up of local athletes with learning disabilities, parents of athletes, and other volunteers who all want to make a difference. We are primarily responsible for organising, promoting and running regular training sessions and supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities. This enables them to compete at their level in local, regional and national competitions.

"creating a strong, vibrant and successful club culture for people with a disability within Perth & Kinross" Achieving charitable status in 2002, the aim of Perth & Kinross Disability Sport is to to promote disability sport at a local level and to provide opportunities for both children and adults with a physical, sensory or learning disability.  As the local branch of Scottish Disability Sport, Perth & Kinross Disability Sport meet regularly to discuss the needs of local athletes and to co-ordinate the provision of local competitions and programmes.  Specific branch aims include to: - co-ordinate, develop and promote sports and physical activity amongst people with a disability in the Perth & Kinross area - to strengthen and extend the network of contacts, clubs and development groups throughout the Perth & Kinross area - to raise the profile of sport for people with a disability within the Perth & Kinross area and beyond Perth & Kinross Disability Sport are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been nominted as an Official Charity of The 2014 Ryder Cup after signing agreements with Ryder Cup Europe alongside Shona Robison, Minister for Sport and Commonwealth Games.  The other appointed charities are Friends of St Margaret's Hospital, Quarriers and The McGinley Foundation. Perth & Kinross Disability Sport are very much looking forward to working with Ryder Cup Europe and the other charities chosen to represent the tournament at Gleneagles next year.  Official Charity status will allow us to develop into new areas and support more people to take part in sport.

The Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball Club was founded in 1987. The Steelers' story is a one of sheer determination, a swift rise to success and international recognition. Within just three years of forming, many of the founding players represented Great Britain in the World Championships and finished 11th. Over the next few years the British squad became packed with Steelers and went on to win medals at the European Championships, World Championships and took the silver medal at the Paralympics in Atlanta. Steelers players weren't just making waves for Team GB; from their base camp at the Northern General Hospital, the dedicated players powered their way up the domestic leagues and secured the coveted Euro League Cup. Disability Sports Coach are the leading provider of high quality sporting and physical activity opportunities for disabled people in the UK. Since we formed in 2005, we have delivered sport to more than 80,000 disabled people, supported over 300 organisations in providing sport or physical activity and trained over 6,000 aspiring disability sports coaches.  We do this by providing coaching and specialist training to mainstream schools, special schools, clubs, charities & other professional organisations. We also deliver a series of Community Clubs in London for disabled people aged 11 and older, focusing on Adapted and Paralympic sports.
