(UK, 267687) Browse eventsThe Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool Association is a registered charity run by a small group of trustees and a committee of volunteers. Opened in 1979 the building is a unique purpose built hydrotherapy pool specially designed to meet the therapeutic needs of any persons of any age with impairments due to illness, injury, disease and or disability. Our pool measures 13.5 metres by 6 metres, maximum depth 1.5 metres. The pool is maintained at 92 degrees Fahrenheit, with the air temperature balanced to match. Group and high dependency private changing rooms are all connected by an overhead hoist system, taking severely disabled users directly into the pool, enhancing the overall hydrotherapy experience. The pool is used by locally based Special Schools, disabled adult groups, local resource centres and individuals, either registered disabled and or referred to the pool. User’s age range varies from 1 to 90+ and since inception in excess of one million user sessions have been recorded, travelling to the pool from Swindon, throughout Wiltshire and surrounding counties to use the facilities. The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool has helped users suffering from virtually any disability you can think of including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, blindness, brain damage and asthma. Other users have included amputees, jockeys recovering from injury, people with severe back pain and many recovering from operations. We need your help. As a privately run registered charity we rely on fundraising and sponsorship to meet our increasing operating costs against pool income received. In addition, August 2011 we now have to raise £200,000 for roof and ventilation repairs. Come and witness the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool experience to see the fantastic work undertaken, the joy on the faces of the disabled children who use the pool and the beneficial hydrotherapy water treatment provided to all users.

(UK, 1157518) Browse eventsNewly formed in 2014, Friends of Ipswich Town FC has been created with the objective of bringing the Club closer to the local community by providing facilities and offering sport related activities to local residents. By interacting with the local district, our vision is that we will enhance and promote inclusion, education, health, and sport, with the subsequent intention of improving the wellbeing of not only the Ipswich Town FC fanbase, but also the local community as a whole. We aim to build on the already active presence that the Club has in the community, by using the ‘Power of Football’ to influence the lives of people in the Ipswich and surrounding area. As a charitable company, Friends of Ipswich Town FC is governed by a select group of trustees, all of whom have an interest in the local community. We are targeting steady year on year growth, but with the principle aim of keeping the needs of the community at the heart of everything we do. Furthermore, we will endeavour to consistently make all our activities available to people of all ages, from all backgrounds and from all abilities. Our work will be divided into four areas to reflect our vision of providing educational, sporting, social and healthy lifestyle opportunities to the local community. These four areas are health, sports development, social inclusion and education. The plan outlines the key actions within each area that we believe will allow us to achieve our vision, as well as the human and financial resources that will be required.

(UK, XT6175) Browse eventsThe All Star Youth Tennis Scholarship Trust (ASYTS) was set-up in 2007 to further the development of kids from the borough of Wandsworth showing significant promise in their ability to play tennis without sufficient parental financial means to take it to a higher level. The inspiration behind the ASYTS was Sebastian Wray who had dedicated himself to the sport of tennis and the Wandsworth Tennis Centre from the age of 11 and whom the coaches, Ben Jackson and Ben White at All Star Coaching, felt could benefit from a higher level of training and development which would ultimately be an advantage to the wider tennis community in Wandsworth. In 2008, Sebastian became the first beneficiary of the Trust and was given a grant to study at a Spanish Tennis Academy. Sebastian has subsequently gone on to become a successful full-time tennis coach at a local tennis club and put back into the Trust by coaching a regular weekly session. It is intended that the Trust will benefit many young people in Wandsworth who are dedicated to the sport of tennis and have shown the same exceptional commitment as Sebastian. Although the funds at the Trust’s disposal are relatively modest, the aspirations of the trustees for wanting to make a difference are high. The Trust has coaching sessions in place for a range of standards. The proceeds raised from sponsorship of the runners who are supporting the Trust by running in the Royal Parks Half Marathon will predominantly be spent on three promising local kids who are receiving regular coaching and fitness sessions this year sponsored by the Trust. The Trust has also set-up a tennis development program in Ethiopia with assistance ranging from supporting ball boys to intensive courses for local coaches in how to best teach promising children to play tennis.
