The charity currently employs 6 Rugby Development Officers (RDOs) coaching rugby across 85 rural schools. For all the gruesome statistics from Rwanda’s genocide – and there are many – perhaps the most sobering is that 96% of the child population at the time are thought to have witnessed the bloodshed first hand. Now those children are helping to build a new Rwanda and for some one thing has made that unenviable task just a little easier: Rugby Rugby as a contact sport helps build very strong relationships & friendships. Players need to be friends with their team mates so they take care of you on the pitch. We provide funds to promising young athletes when they really need it most; right at the start of their career. Early encouragement, support and funding significantly increases the chance of a young person achieving their potential. Lack of finance should not be a barrier so disabled and able-bodied athletes are encouraged to apply for funding to help cover the costs of their training. Anyone can apply as long as their club and coaches sanction their application and their sport is recognised by Sport England. Athletes complete the application on our website detailing their training goals and the costs associated with them. Once approved each athlete has their own page on our website and on Virgin Money Giving, where they can showcase their talent and individuality. You support the athletes of your choice; friends, family, school mates, club members, the wider sporting public, in fact anyone can help. All donations are collected by us and then distributed to the athletes in accordance with their financial needs detailed in their application. We don't charge a penny, relying on your generosity to fund the charities running costs.
