The Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball Club was founded in 1987. The Steelers' story is a one of sheer determination, a swift rise to success and international recognition. Within just three years of forming, many of the founding players represented Great Britain in the World Championships and finished 11th. Over the next few years the British squad became packed with Steelers and went on to win medals at the European Championships, World Championships and took the silver medal at the Paralympics in Atlanta. Steelers players weren't just making waves for Team GB; from their base camp at the Northern General Hospital, the dedicated players powered their way up the domestic leagues and secured the coveted Euro League Cup. Doing it for Dan was set up in memory of our 11 year old son Daniel Climance who was tragically killed on 10th June 2015 when he collided with a road sweeper whilst out riding his bike. Daniel was very sporty and Doing it for Dan has been set up to encourage children and young adults to participate in sport and leisure activities by awarding grants to individuals, teams and organisations in Wiltshire and its surrounding areas.

We are a mixed gender club; our members span a range from mid 20s upwards and the representation of business, professions and jobs is fascinating, too.  The Club's main fundraiser is the annual Dragon Boat Festival.  This will take place on 8th June 2014 on Bristol Docks.  Over the last 12 years we have raised £460,000 directly from this event!

We are part of Rotary International, which is the world's largest service organisation for business and professional people. We believe in "Service above Self" and give our time to help organise events and raise money to benefit local and international charities. In 2012 we raised over £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support from a sponsored walk when over 250 took part.  In 2013 we would like to raise twice as much for Macmillan and our "Walk in the Park" will take place in Sandon Park on Sunday 28th April. Andrew, or ‘Bart’ to his friends, was the person that everyone turned to for guidance, from beginners to people at the top of their game. Founded by Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE & Andrew’s wife Leah, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation will work to honour Andrew’s life and legacy by encouraging youngsters into sailing. Supporting the next generation was something Andrew was extremely passionate about.
