Wings (UK, 1121518) Browse events

YTD Raised: £680.00

Wings Like Eagles helps to provide helicopters and air coordination support to provide rapid lifesaving disaster relief in southern Africa, starting in Mozambique. Natural disasters are frequent in this region and, immediately after starting in 2007, we have helped deliver emergency relief.  Where we work, history says about 500,000 people can be affected by disasters each year. We aim to respond quickly because that is when most lives can be saved.  We aim to get the right to the right people so lives can be sustained.  We aim to provide access for all people, so that all can be helped.  For example, flying news film crews can publicise a disaster and so can help all aid agencies to fund raise. We last deployed in Feb 2013.  We sustained 3 villages hit by flooding in the Limpopo valley in Mozambique.  We also provided access for the Interior Minister, the Deputy Education Minister and the World Bank so they could target resources properly.  For a bit of our history, see "what we have done" on this site. You also might like to visit our website or see the video of our operation, or to look at our on line brochure and news posts. If you are thinking of giving, you might like to read "what we seek to do" on this site.  We have also posted extracts of all our Annual Reports so that you can easily see that our actions match our words. Thank you for your support!   If you want to keep in touch why not sign up for our e mails at the front page at www.wingslikeeagles.net.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (UK, SC009451) Browse events

YTD Raised: £672.08

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team is based in the Scottish Borders. The Team have 40 team members who are unpaid but very highly trained volunteers, on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to render assistance to lost or injured people in mountainous or remote areas. The Team covers an area of around 2500 square miles made up of the Lothian and Borders Police area to the West of the A68 trunk road. The Team is a Charity and has to raise all of the funds it requires itself. It currently takes about £30,000 to cover the Team's operational expenses for one year. As an independent local charity, we work hard to raise as much money as we can from a variety of sources for our worthwhile and very necessary services. This is particularly important, as we have to raise funds through our own initiative. Financial help, from whatever source, and for however much someone can afford, is always gratefully received and put to good use. The Team is part of the network of Mountain Rescue Teams affiliated to the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland.
