A charity that exists to provide users of Rest Bay with a first class beach lifesaving service. We do this by providing our members with training opportunities, lifesaving equipment and supporting our members that wish to compete in surf lifesaving sport. The club currently owns over £40,000 of rescue equipment which is run and maintained using grants, donations and the clubs own reserves. We teach our youth and senior members the skills needed in order to sit surf lifesaving awards and allow them to patrol the beach as volunteer beach lifeguards. We currently have over 200 members aged from 7 upwards. Beach safety education is an essential part of our preventative work and all members are taught about beach and water safety. We also teach hundreds of school children and local organisations about beach and water safety each year. In 1997 a new lifeguard station was opened at Rest Bay which is our base for all beach operations. The club was responsible for fundraising a large proportion of the monies required to build this facility. During the summer months our members provide volunteer patrols on Rest Bay beach and support to the local authority lifeguards. The club provides all the essential lifesaving equipment used on the beach which includes an inshore rescue boat, ATV, surf rescue boards etc. On 30/10/12 the lifeguard station was targeted by thieves who stole the clubs ATV Quad bike worth £8500. We are currently raising funds to replace this vital lifesaving equipment: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2012/11/05/thieves-steal-lifeguards-8-500-quad-bike-putting-lives-at-risk-91466-32172935/ In 2012 lifeguards at Rest Bay performed first aid on 93 people, found 26 missing children, rescued 6 people and assisted a further 17 from the water. The quad was used in a large percentage of these incidents to launch powercraft to perform rescues/assists and reach casualties on the beach quickly.
