(UK, 1022572) Browse eventsWelcome to the Rotary Club of Pershore and thank you for dropping by our fundraising website. We are the Pershore, UK, local branch of Rotary International and a part of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. Based around the concept of "Service above Self", we are a socially active group, working as a team of friends and professionals together to raise funds for charities locally around Pershore and for national and International causes. Much more about us can be found at Rotary Club of Pershore Website What are we doing at the moment? Firstly we are setting up a satellite club to encourage a younger group of enthusiastic people to join in the Rotary mission of charitable work. If you'd like to join them, then please go to our website (link above) for more details. But as well as that us older members are continuing our fundraising efforts in support of the local community, international aid and disaster relief. As Christmas comes round each year, we run one of our main fundraising events of the year - the Pershore Tree of Lights - which raises money for Acorns and other Rotary Supported Charities. We sponsor a massive Christmas Tree in Pershore centre and invite you to sponsor a name on the tree - with the proceeds of the sponsorship going to these worthy causes. Last year we raised over £3,000 and gave £1,500 each to Acorns Children's Hospice and the Pershore Riverside Youth Centre. This year we are raising money for these same two wonderful charities and hope that you will consider helping us - we'd like to raise £5,000 this year to add to the over £32,000 that you've all helped us raise since we started the Pershore Tree of Lights. You can find out more and give here Pershore Tree of Lights In 2013 Pershore Rotary Club sent £4,539 to their partner Kandy Rotary Club in Sri Lanka. Kandy Rotarians used these funds to screen the eyesight of 1,500 people at eye camps in three different locations. This year we are aiming to send a similar amount again, helped by Rotary International matching the amount of donations that we raise. See much more about this incredible project by selecting "Kandy Eye Camps" on the left.

We run a boys home and girls home, slum tuition centres, and a residential home for destitute street elderly in India. We also provide and run palliative care ambulances to take pain relief and end of life care to those living in poverty - too sick and poor to reach hospital care. After 23 years of operation we can say that many of the children rescued from street work are now in secure employment. Our graduates , some at Masters Level top over a hundred. The World Health Organisation along with other NGO's in a recent survey said that there are more poor people in India than the poorest African countries combined. Our charity seeks to serve and care for the very poorest. We have no office and only limited overheads to comply with Charity Commission requirements, so really can say that your money will make a direct difference to the life of someone living in worst poverty than we can visulise. Our charity head, Pat, has set up and continues to manage our projects - travelling at her own expense - well over 40 visits made now.
