(UK, 280561) Browse eventsThe Rotary Club of Sidcup Benevolent Trust is the charitable arm of the Sidcup Club. All fund raising events are organised by the Club so that funds may be distributed locally, nationally and internationally for worthy causes. The Trust's registered objectives are to assist with the "relief of poverty, advancement of education and religion and other purposes beneficial to the community." Since its creation, the Trust has raised approaching £400,000 for charity which has been distributed broadly 50:50 to UK-based and international purposes. The latter has included substantial sums sent to charities providing aid to major disaster areas such as occurred with African famines, the tsunami and the earthquake in Haiti. More recently we have sent money to Rotary linked aid agencies providing direct support in Pakistan We have also raised funds for the Rotary Club of Sidcup Educational Trust (RoSET), which was established by a past president of the Sidcup Club in 1985, our 50th anniversary year. That charity provides grants to young people generally aged between 15 and 25 who live, work or being educated in the Sidcup area of Kent, south east England, who wish to participate in a character building or life changing project including volunteer work overseas. 2010 marked the Rotary Club of Sidcup's 75th anniversary since its formation in 1935 and 25 years since the RoSET Trust was founded. As such, the Sidcup Rotarians and the RoSET trustees are keen to attract additional funding to extend the good work achieved to date through Trust grants in assisting local youth involvement. The Rotary Club of Sidcup therefore organised a series of events aimed at raising further funds for the Benevolent Trust, for RoSET and our charitable initiatives. These events included a 75 mile sponsored walk, our President's 15 mile Challenge Walk, a Battle of Britain band concert, a Swimarathon, a motorcycle drive-out to benefit the charity SERV (Bloodrunners) as well as public collections. One of the latter was our annual street collection during much of December when Father Christmas, his sleigh and helpers visited local areas of Sidcup to the delight of children and adults alike. The latter is an annual event and we are ever grateful to the residents and visitors of Sidcup and the surrounding areas who regularly donate so generously. Your support for our initiatives would be much appreciated, prove invaluable to the Trust and be put to good use in helping others in needs. The Rotary Club takes nothing from the funds donated for administering the Trust. The only expenses incurred are those directly related to any fundraising initiatives. Young people interested in applying for a RoSET grant can obtain more information and an application form from the RoSET link on the Rotary Club of Sidcups website http://www.rotaryclubofsidcup.org/roset.html . Equally, anyone interested in the beneficiaries achievements can refer to the website for further details.
