Situated in the Abbots and Levine Hostel, Doorstep serves the 45 families accommodated immediately above, as well as those living in other temporary accommodation in North Camden, London. We provide space and resources for children to play, learn, and develop and to help them reach their potential. Through these activities and services Doorstep aims to create a community of growth, healing and a sense of belonging that enables children and families to gain strength and confidence as they engage in society and press forward with their future.

We currently support around 500 disadvantaged children through our 5 projects. Our Mango House project supports around 170 children Monday to Friday through its pre-primary school, afternoon tuition classes and feeding programme. Our Colva project provides afternoon tuition classes and a snack to around 20 disadvantaged children and our latest project, based at Chimbel, supports around 170 children through a pre-primary school and afternoon tuition classes. In addition we provide around 250 school bags and uniforms each year through our Bag4School and Back2School projects which provide all the uniform and study items which a child requires to attend school. We provide emergency food parcels for families in hardship. We provide innovative solutions in support, re-housing & resettlement of both male and female offenders. We advocate, provide mediation and support women who want to exit prostitution. We support all children and young people who have been reported missing from home in Bolton, along with their families. We deliver peer mentoring for young people in schools. We find and help sustain accommodation for roofless and homeless people. We run the following projects: Eve's Space, OARS, RUNA, Storehouse, Streetlife, and Winter Watch. Often the people we help are ignored by others , their friends and family have given up on them, they have nowhere to live and are feeling desperate. Foundation provides non-judgemental support to people who have experienced homelessness, drug problems, domestic abuse, mental health problems or have experience of prison and offending. We offer a wide range of specialist services to help socially excluded people from these groups to gain full independence in settled accommodation. They are then able to address their health problems, find work and participate in their local community. Over the past 30 years we have helped more than 40,000 people to settle in their own home and to turn their life around. Paul from North Yorkshire was homeless after serving a prison term and the breakdown of his marriage. Foundation supported him in finding new local accommodation and to develop skills for work. He now works as a Foundation volunteer and reflects that: “Foundation was there for me when other people turned their back, and I will always be grateful.” Your donation will enable us to continue to help socially excluded people to turn their lives around and offer them a new route to independence and achievement in their lives.

Its objective at that time was the relief of the elderly, sick and disabled and to promote, education, training and rehabilitation to the needy people in Desborough, Rothwell and surrounding villages. Our basic principles have remained the same but we have grown during the last 30 years and extended our services with the growing need of the local population and by working in partnership with local authorities who fund us with grants (for statutory services provided) totalling approximately 27% of our costs. We now supply services within our community day centre such as a disabled bathing facility, we have wheelchair accessible transport and a community support programme to promote and encourage people to remain independent in their own homes. We supply meals on wheels service 365 days per year. We have a through floor lift to access the first floor which houses a domestic sized kitchen, full toilet facilities and a beautiful function room. This floor is regularly used by community groups and for private functions and is available for hire 7 days/nights per week, subject to prior bookings.

YTD Raised: £871.48Established in 1990, Stevenage Community Trust was formed to provide funding to voluntary and community groups in Stevenage and the surrounding villages, as well as to individuals in desperate need. The work of the Trust is only possible with the continuing support of local businesses and individuals through membership and donations. Our current patron members are Stevenage Borough Council and The Follett Trust, with over 50 other local businesses and community groups forming our standard membership. The Trust has helped thousands of people in the local community by providing grants ranging from £50 to £2,000. Over £750,000 has been distributed over the years to a wide range of beneficiaries including sports and arts clubs, Olympic hopefuls, groups for the blind and the deaf, toddler groups and after-school clubs, schools, Scouts and Guides, clubs for widows and the over 60’s, Women’s refuge, Age Concern, community centres, sheltered housing and emergency grants for individuals and families in need. What makes Stevenage Community Trust so unique is that funds are both raised and distributed at a local level. Even if you are unfamiliar with the name, most Stevenage residents will have, or know someone who has, benefited positively from the Trust.
