(UK, 1110102) Browse eventsChanging the world, one life at a time The aim of the project is to bring hope to the hopeless, love to the lonely, and peace to their hearts. The retreat in Kakamega has been given a local name of the “Koinonia Christian Retreat Centre”. Koinonia is a Greek word that means family, in a sense of wider community and love. We lovingly care for the rejected, abused and abandoned, such as street children and orphans. Our homes provide shelter, food, security, behavioural boundaries and individual attention for those in our care. The objective of the project is to help each child become a productive and valuable member of their society, helping them to achieve a brighter future through education, training and life skills application. “A little effort can make a huge impact” Thank you for being part of what we are doing.
(UK, 801819) Browse eventsPecan is a Christian organisation with the vision to see the lives of those we work with transformed, many of whom face seemingly insurmountable barriers. We run an emergency Foodbank for anyone in immediate crisis. We provide people with free food up to three times while their crisis is resolved. Foodbank is run by trained volunteers and all food is donated by local shops, schools and churches. We also work with vulnerable groups such as female ex-offenders. Our mentors get alongside the young women with the aim of empowering them to make decisions that will help them not go back to prison. Furthermore, Pecan works with the long-term unemployed in assisting them to find work, whether this be via training schemes, CV workshops, assisted job search and developing interview skills. Ultimately, we seek to enable each individual to achieve their potential and through that to see transformation in the community around us.

(UK, 1118854) Browse eventsMargaret and Geoff Trimby, the founders of the charity, visited Kenya on holiday and were shocked by the poverty and lack of work so bringing insurmountable problems to the lovely people. The fund raises money to build and support a school in Kikambala, Mombasa, Kenya. This is a very poor area of Mombasa where parents struggle to find work and so cannot afford to feed the children let alone send them to state education. The school is for the poorest children and orphans being brought up in the extended family. It is providing free uniforms, stationery and ,hopefully in the near future, a meal a day. The first two classrooms are finished and the well, toilet block and septic tanks are built . We opened the first class of the school January 2012. There are plans for three more classrooms and an admin/ dining block. We need funds to start the building of the 3 new classrooms so the children can move on at the end of this year to the third class. We need on going funds to pay the teachers wages , buy the food and maintain the buildings . We are starting the second class in January 2013 so 55 new children will be in education. Please help -- -these wonderful families do deserve much better than they have.

(UK, 1135226) Browse eventsAttending school is not a priority for most underprivileged children growing up in developing countries. Many parents cannot afford basic food supplies to feed their families, therefore children spend their days looking for food on the streets rather than attending school and developing an education. Many schools receive little help and so struggle to provide the children with food and basic educational materials. Nia Children’s Foundation works with local African suppliers to provide food supplies and educational materials to non-government run schools in Africa’s poorest areas. This ensures that children attend school and receive regular meals enabling them to become healthier and more focused in class. The word Nia means life’s purpose in Swahili, the language spoken in Kenya. In our eyes ensuring these children are healthy and receiving an education allows them to provide for themselves in the future... this is our life’s purpose. YOUR £5 CAN HELP FEED AND EDUCATE ONE CHILD FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH Over 97% of your donations go directly to paying for the food supplies. NO donations are used in wages or expenses. Our finances are extremely transparent and supporters can see exactly where every single penny of their donations are being spent. Please visit our website for further information about our project.
