The Band Aid Trust was registered as a British Charity in January 1985 for the relief of hunger and poverty in Ethiopia and the neighbourhood thereof. By July 1985, over $6 million had been spent on buying and transporting food, shelter, medical supplies, water equipment and other essential items to famine victims Ethiopia and Sudan. The Live Aid concerts on 13th July 1985 raised over $80 million world-wide, which was spent on programmes designed to address some of the underlying causes of the famine. In total, Band Aid has raised in excess of $195 million. In recent years the Charity has supported projects designed to make a lasting difference to the lives of people in and around Ethiopia. This includes the construction of schools, hospitals, boreholes, wells, rain-water harvesting facilities and latrines, as well as food security, hygiene, sanitation, livelihood diversification and income generating activities, training in-country for teachers, doctors and nurses, assistance for those living with HIV/AIDS, and emergency interventions such as nutrition screening programmes, seed and animal distribution and the procurement of emergency food aid to treat severely malnourished children and adults.

More long term we offer jobs, work placement opportunities and voluntary positions to the public and various organisations. We also have plans to open a Christian Café and Church where people can be brought together under the Safe Haven umbrella which will eventually cover the needs of every situation presented to it, eg basic teaching and information for people who need a step up towards a new beginning in their life situations. We try to meet people at their point of need and proceed accordingly to assist them whoever they are...all are welcome at Safe Haven.

Just For Assam is proud to support Wasim Haque who is runnining the London Marathon 2015 & the Lake District ULTIMATE 110K Marathan. He hopes to raise fund for "Sishu Kalyan Sadan" an orphanage in Guwahati, Assma, India. Inspired by their 2014 targets, two dads are runnning their first marathons for "Little Helping Hands" a charity formed by their children.  Born & brought up in Assam, India, Londoners -Vikram Das and Wasim Haque are on their second year of fundraising.  Vikram has successfully completed the Manchester Marathon on the 19th of April 2015.  So far they have raised £1500 ($2400 or Rs.1,48,000) We would be delighted if you could join us in our fundraising journey and give us that extra nudge to reach our taregt of 1500.  Every penny helps. This is what your contribution would make a difference to the girls at the orphanage: £20 (Rs.2000) would buy one meal for all 13 girls. £30 would buy basic school books per student for a year. £40 would buy all of them a full day's meal. £50 would buy them shoes. £100 would buy all of living expenses (expect food) for a month. We also provide Starter Packs containing items for individuals who have recently moved into their own accommodation these contain small starting out goods for the kitchen. When available we occasionally provide larger items of furniture.
