(UK, 1143144) It is estimated that in the North East of England there are at least fifty thousand people living with one of the most common fifteen neurological conditions that include multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, dementia, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease and acquired brain injury. But care for people with neurological conditions, despite significant investment in health services in recent years and improvements in the speed of diagnosis and quality of acute medical treatment, is characterised by little to no community based treatment and support, very limited access to rehabilitation, poor information, a lack of coordination between services and unnecessary hospital admissions. People with neurological conditions often experience health and social care that is fragmented and disconnected and there are failures in signposting people to existing services that could help them. The impact of this on the lives of individuals, their families, carers, friends and employers is real and damaging. The Northern Neurological Alliance campaigns for improvements that make a difference.

Infections are rare, but they can happen to anybody, and can be fatal: 14% of maternal deaths in the UK are due to septicaemia. Jessica's Trust would like every parent, every midwife and doctor to know that childbed fever (also called puerperal fever or puerperal sepsis) is still a very real threat to a mother's life and to know how to recognise the symptoms.
