The Big Heart Charity Fund was set up to help people with serious heart conditions, principally by raising money to pay for medical equipment and research for heart-related conditions in the North of England. In 2008 Adam Smith, then aged 33 years old, was taken seriously ill with endocarditis (a rare infection of his heart). Further complications developed which resulted in a stroke and pneumonia....he was left fighting for his life in intensive care.Either of these conditions is life-threatening and it took a massive fight and a minor miracle for him to survive. Thankfully he did. Today he is fit and healthy, living his life with a mechanical heart valve and a pacemaker. Adam wanted to do something to help other people with serious heart conditions so he and his family set up The Big Heart Charity Fund. The Charity has already raised in excess of £50,000, a group of Adam's friends completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 2010 and a team of cyclists, including Adam completed the journey from Lands End to John o'Groats in 2011. Adams mother, Judy also took part in the Isle of Man Parish Walk in support of the Charity. Charity No: 1143256 Find out more Website http://www.thebigheartcharity.co.uk
