We are dedicated to helping these unfortunate families fight and win the battle. Our mission is to assist children and their families to maintain a normal family life, whilst dealing with all of the disruptive aspects surrounding childhood cancer. We do this by assisting organisations and patients directly at the coal face, to ensure that children and their families get the support they need to get through this terrible ordeal. We know these wonderful people as "Superstars", and they need your support to keep providing the help these kids need. Set up in Memory of Ben Preston xx(read his story by selecting the page on the left) Once again, thank you for your support.
If you can imagine what the pain of arthritis is like, then imagine what that feels like if you are a child. It is not generally appreciated that arthritis is one the most common physically disabling diseases in children and adolescents. Arthritis affects 1 in 1000 children in the UK making it more common than than diseases like cystic fibrosis and just as common as childhood diabetes. In spite of this many people assume arthritis only affects 'older people' and are unaware children and young people can have it too, affecting critical times of growth in their lives. Arthritis can affect children of any age but it mostly begins during the pre-school and early school years. A father described how when his daughter was a baby he held her in his arms and lifted her legs over the arm of the chair to make her more comfortable. She cried out in pain. It was not until 12 months later that the little girl was diagnosed with arthritis. "Kids Like Us" is a charity which supports children and young people with arthritis and their families in the West Midlands. This involves supporting the work at Birmingham Children's Hospital. There are currently around 1200 children who suffer from arthritis in our area. The cause of the disease is not clear and as yet there is no cure so that is why "Kids Like Us" also support work that is looking for answers, as well as raising awareness of the disease in children. For information on what we do with the money raised and how we help the children please go to our website www.kidslikeus.info or contact Irene Bannister on [email protected]

Drinkaware is the UK’s most recognised independent alcohol education charity and we provide the facts about alcohol. We’re not anti-alcohol; we just want to help people make informed decisions to avoid unknowingly putting themselves at risk. Unfortunately, contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be an alcoholic for alcohol to cause you harm. Did you know alcohol is the biggest cause of cancer after smoking? Everyone knows drinking too much causes liver disease, but not many people know liver disease has no symptoms? Over half of 25-44 year olds drink over the daily unit guidelines, unknowingly doubling the risk. By raising money for Drinkaware, you can help us to reduce the number of people at risk of severe illnesses such as stroke, heart disease, diabetes, pancreatitis, infertility and long-term memory loss, all of which can be caused through regularly drinking too much. Unfortunately, young people are also at risk of harm. During adolescence, the brain is still developing. Drinking can cause brain damage impacting on brain function and long term memory. More than 50% of young adults with an STI were under the influence when they had sex, and 76,000 facial injuries a year are due to drunken violence. 100% of the funds raised will go directly towards our campaigns, education programmes and initiatives to help adults, young adults, parents and children understand more about alcohol and its effects. Find out if you need to cut down through our new drinks calculator www.mydrinkaware.co.uk
