Rotary Foundation Of The United Kingdom (UK, 1002059) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,390.00

Polio cases have declined rapidly since 1985, but the fight isn't over. Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease, and for as little as .40p, a child can be protected against the virus for life. If we don't finish the fight right now, more than 10 million children under the age of five could be paralyzed by polio in the next 40 years. In 2012, the effort to end polio made historic progress. The year ended with the lowest number of new polio cases in the fewest places ever. There were fewer than 250 reported cases, compared with 350,000 cases in 1985, when Rotary began the fight to end polio. Today, we are “this close” to creating a polio-free world, and we need your help. An important note for Rotary members – please do not use this site if you wish to receive your TRF/PHF recognition. This site is designed as a tool to help Rotary Clubs and non-members raise funds for Polio through sponsored events. Down Syndrome International (UK, 1091843) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,389.09

Down Syndrome International (DSi) is a global network of organisations and individuals whose mission is to improve quality of life for people with Down syndrome worldwide and promote their inherent right to be accepted and included as valued and equal members of their communities. We aim to: With around 7 million people with Down syndrome living worldwide, it is the most common and recognised form of learning disability. But most people with Down syndrome face a harsh reality of very low life expectancy, physical and psychological abuse, stigma and segregation, and very limited life opportunities as children and adults. People with Down syndrome living in poverty face all of these challenges, but it is also true across the spectrum of wealth due to educational, political, medical and social barriers.  We provide training and support to professionals, organisations and people with Down syndrome to empower them to advocate for the right to basic living standards, medical care, education and acceptance into society, through our "REACH OUT" outreach programmes.  In addition, DSi works to connect the global Down syndrome community so that people with Down syndrome can speak with a single voice, we organise the World Down Syndrome Congress held every 3 years, and we raise awareness through our global initiative World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March every year www.worlddownsyndromeday.org.

YTD Raised: £2,287.76

GEMS Charity We are a Leicestershire based charity, founded in June 2012 by Andy and Sally Anderson of Kibworth after accompanying four close friends on weekly visits to the Osbourne Chemotherapy Suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary.  Inspired by the hard work and dedication of the nurses and the potential life saving procedures that happen in the Suite it soon became apparent that they needed as much help as possible to make the surroundings comfortable and homely. The Oncology Unit treats 100's of people every day with all types of cancer and it relies heavily on the generous donations and help by the public.Be inspired by them and show your support to a local charity where all proceeds go directly to the Oncology Unit in the Osbourne Building. Our Aim: To help the patients and their supporters who visit the Oncology Unit in the Osborne Building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) more comfortable.  Our Promise: With close consultation with the staff on the ward we will endeavour to help with buying small, non-medical equipment and anything that will help to make the patient's time at the suite a little more comfortable during what can be a very difficult time for the patients and visitors supporting their friends and family. A patients quote"Having spent most of last year between the Osbourne outpatients clinic and the Osbourne day ward I know how much could be done improve the facilities. Octavia's Trust (UK, Find) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,260.00

We are Octavia's Trust a small charitable trust set up to raise funds to provide postgraduate bursaries to people undertaking research into the causes and prevention of stillbirths and late stage miscarriages. Losing a baby is one of the worst things that can happen to a parent, but sadly it is all too common. We strongly believe that in order to get the best research we need the best researchers. However, high fees and lack of financial support put many potentially brillant researchers off from pursuing a master's degree which is mandatory for nearly all PhD programmes. By providing even small bursaries for deserving postgraduate students we hope to encourage more people to move into this field of research. Please donate to support our cause.
