YTD Raised: £0.00

The Dore Foundation aims to improve the lives of people who have difficulties with learning. It is a grant giving organisation with a particular focus on supporting early interventions for children with special educational needs (SEN). As such, it works collaboratively with schools and other partners to provide access to the Dore Programme, a personalised programme of daily physical exercises for people with learning difficulties and SEN such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and ADHD. It is estimated that one in five of us struggle to learn. The pressures to belong and to achieve are consistently promoted, yet the gulf between those who have difficulties with learning and everyone else is still evident. Today’s educational system isn’t working for a significant number of children, many of whom lack the support or resources to do anything about it. We want to help bridge the gap wherever we can to provide real support for those in need and give children the opportunity to achieve and a belief in their own ability.

This flexibility means we can respond to people where and when they need us, and we support around 1500 people each year via a range of targeted services. The work we do is effective. We know it is because the people we support tell us, and the monitoring forms we use show significant improvements. Over 85% of the people who make use of Beacon show an improvement, and the main benefits people experience are reductions in the levels of depression and anxiety, increase in the levels of well-being, confidence and self-esteem, and improvements in relationships with family, friends and colleagues. Above all, what people tell us is they have gained the skills and resilience which means they don't think they will need our help again. A team of over 60 counsellors - mostly volunteers - provide all our services, and the quality of their work is overseen by a team of 11 casework supervisors and the general manager. A team of part-time appointments administrators support counsellors by making and rearranging all appointments on our adults service. Deaf Access (UK, 1050990) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Deaf Access provide a holistic range of services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults and children to improve and maintain their independence by providing information, support and services, as well as promoting public awareness and understanding.   Deafness is not cute, does not tug on the heartstrings and people often think it is ‘less serious’ when they compare disabilities. Yet for the 1 in 6 adults & children with a hearing loss, being unable to follow conversation, missing vital information or social chit chat can have a devastating emotional impact. Their deafness cuts them off from people, their families, friends, groups and services- which negatively affects their independence, mental health and well being.  In July 2010 BSMHD quoted the 2010 GP Survey statistics showing that Deaf people are the most discriminated against and most deprived in the country. They are far more likely to be unemployed; 13% compared to national average of 4%, have worse than average physical health-14% compared to 6%, those with poor health are 10% compared to national average of 6%. Deaf people are more likely to be a Carer; 26% compared to 9%. Crucially the mental wellbeing of the Deaf Community is far worse than the national average-10% of Deaf people having a psychological or emotional Condition, compared to 6%. This astonishing evidence is just a small example of why specialist support resource centres like Deaf Access are vitally needed.Your money will help us to be there for them- and you- when you need us by getting through the recession and cut backs- together we can make a difference!  On behalf of Deaf Access, may we thank you for considering supporting us.  Sue Craney Executive Director of Deaf Access   Visit our Website at www.deaf-access.co.uk

Seasons For Growth (England and Wales) Ltd (UK, 1091766) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Seasons for Growth, (SfG) is a programme for children, young people and adults who have experienced significant change or loss. SfG is based on the belief that change, loss and grief are normal and valuable parts of life. We examine the impact of changes such as death, separation, divorce, loss of employment, and war (refugees and armed forces families) upon our lives, and explore how we can learn to live and grow from these experiences. The core intention of this programme is the development of resilience and emotional literacy to promote social and emotional wellbeing. The programme is educational in nature and does not provide therapy or counselling, but is delivered in a therapeutic way. The programme is based on William Worden’s 4 tasks of grief. We use the imagery of the four seasons to illustrate that grief is a cyclical experience, not a linear journey with a clear end. Trained ‘Companions’ facilitate small groups where participants share their experiences, and support and learn from one another. Peer support is a key element of the programme, and confidentiality is strongly emphasised.
