Who we are We are Home-Start Richmond, the local branch of the national family support charity which currently supports 1 in 237 families in the UK. Parenting young children can be difficult at the best of times but when you have other issues or problems to cope with as well, it can become overwhelming. This is where Home-Start can help. What we do Last year we supported 250 families with over 500 children in the borough of Richmond upon Thames. We have about 100 home-visiting volunteers who are trained to support families (with at least one child under 5) who are experiencing difficulties such as post-natal depression, isolation, disability of parent or child, bereavement or a combination of factors that impact on their children’s development. Help us to support parents to give local children a better start in life. For more information, please visit www.homestart-richmond.org.uk.

DRUM is a small registered charity and user led service based in Watford. We provide day services to adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities. DRUM was first formed in October 1994 by a small group of disabled volunteers who wanted to meet up with like-minded people and pursue art activities within the local community. Nearly 20 years on and DRUM now supports over 60 disabled members and 100+ carers. Most of our members were not born with a disability and most had led busy lives, working hard and bringing up their families, when their lives were suddenly turned upside down by illness. Many first come to DRUM with feelings of depression and isolation. Many rely on care and support from a relative or friend. Some carers just need a couple of hours in order to do some shopping, meet friends or get some sleep but others may be juggling paid work with their unpaid caring responsibilities at home.
CO-Gas Safety is an independent registered charity that works to try to prevent unintentional deaths and injuries from carbon monoxide and other gas dangers, including all products of combustion. The charity also helps victims and their families. The charity also lobbies government and industry with regard to prevention. We run a schools poster competition to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide etc. for ages 10-11 in North England, South England, Scotland and Wales. We would prefer prime time public health warnings on TV but we can’t afford these. We also collect, collate and publish data on unintentional deaths and injuries and have been doing this since 1995. We have probably the best data in the UK. We try to check every death with the Coroner concerned and we are the only body to have had its data independently validated by a statistician.

Staines Shopmobility is an independent registered charity based on the Two Rivers shopping centre in Staines. The charity provides mobility equipment to enable people with limited mobility to independently access essential services, such as shops, banks, opticians, libraries and social / recreational facilities, within the town of Staines. The service promotes an equality of opportunity and community involvement amongst the beneficiary group. It also improves confidence, health and mental welfare amongst service users who would otherwise be left isolated from the community and dependent on others to shop and access services for them.Research has shown that 90% of Shopmobility users would not be able to fully access Staines town centre without the service. This can lead to increased isolation; reduced independence and affect people’s health and general well-being. The charity has been helping people access the town centre since 1998 and has been used over 45,000 times since opening its doors. Income from donations and fundraising events enable us to continue providing this vital service

Our friendly and caring volunteers are all parents themselves and therefore understand the joys, frustrations and challenges of bringing up children. A volunteer visits a family at home once a week for 2-3 hours offering time, friendship, support, encouragement and practical help for as long as is needed. Our volunteers are all different ages and come from all walks of life but they are there to do one thing – offer a friendly helping hand to parents with young children. - See more at: http://www.homestartrichmondshire.org.uk
