Life Centre (UK, 1127779) Browse events

YTD Raised: £315.00

Lifecentre is a Sussex based charity providing help to child and adult survivors of rape and sexual abuse and their families. A quarter of those we help are under 18, the youngest just 5 years old. Sexual abuse has a devastating effect on lives. Over half of our clients think regularly of suicide; two thirds are depressed. A significant number self harm or over-eat in an attempt to make themselves less attractive; others turn to drugs or alcohol to block out painful memories. Not surprisingly normal daily routines become difficult or impossible. There are no quick fixes, but healing does come with expert help and time. We see survivors able to sleep again, returning to employment, school, their hobbies and families; survivors getting justice through the courts; survivors transforming their shame and despair into purpose for life. Referrals for counselling have risen every year since we started in 2001. In 2013 we expect to have over 350 referrals and get over 14,000 calls, texts and emails to our helplines. We do all this for less that £250,000 a year - roughly the cost to society of three rapes. Less than 10% of these costs are met by government grants. Thank you for your support which will make a real difference. * Please note that the registered address is not the location of our offices and counselling rooms which are all in a confidential location. Mail can be safely sent to this registered address for collection, however.

Reflect (UK, 1118904) Browse events

YTD Raised: £310.00

Reflect is a free support service for men and women facing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy and for those who have experienced pregnancy loss. Our vision is to see women and men in York (and surrounding areas) enabled to make an informed decision about a crisis pregnancy without fear, pressure or judgment. Motivated by Christian compassion, we support people in this difficult situation through the decision-making process and beyond, whatever the outcome.  We raise awareness of the issues surrounding pregnancy including: parenting, abortion, adoption, miscarriage, and infertility, and support those affected. Many people are affected by these difficulties - 1 in 3 women will have an abortion in their lifetime, more will have a crisis pregnancy and 1 in 4 early pregnancies end in miscarriage. There is a great need for our work and every penny really does count. "We can safely say that the day we found Reflect was the day that changed our lives forever. We have a better understanding of ourselves, each other and have gained skills that will enable us to be strong and deal with whatever other events life has in store for us." (A couple who completed our Journey Course for post-abortion recovery)

The Red Lipstick Foundation (UK, 1159195) Browse events

YTD Raised: £250.00

Promotingthe charity 'The Red Lipstick Foundation started by our family in June2014 following the death of our much loved daughter, sister, twin, auntie, granddaughterand friend. We are based in Hampshire. Brittany took her life the day before her 20th birthday and left our world in chaos. We named our charity the ‘RedLipstickFoundation’ as Brittany was such a make up fanatic. She loved her bright red lipstick and it suited her vivacious and crazy personality. She was a stunning, hilarious and quirky member of our big family. Her death was extremely unexpected as to everyone she was the life and soul of the party with a permanent cheery smile. None of us will ever know what that smile concealed and we have now made it our mission to try and help other families in our situation and to raise awareness of mental health issues.
