Careline is a free telephone befriending service for people living in the Derbyshire Dales and Uttoxeter area. We aim to make people's lives better by calling those who feel in need of support - they may be elderly, less able to get out, feeling lonely or isolated. We offer friendship to the people that we call and peace of mind to their families and friends. With our team of 60+ volunteers who make the calls, we provide greater social interaction for our members, helping to give them the confidence to remain living independently. We make calls every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. Our service is completely free to use. Although we receive some funding, as a local charity we rely on donations and support from our community to keep this valuable service running.

Making a difference to rural communities throughout SuffolkWe exist to help rurally isolated people in Suffolk to access services and information to improve their lives, health and wellbeing. To bring people together within communities to create local support mechanisms. This is a free service that is accessible to everyone. Why the community needs this charity Our project provides an innovative solution to the real problem of rural isolation. Loss of services in rural communities can leave residents without any means of connecting with each other, this can lead to low mood and loneliness. Accessing information is almost impossible in these situations. Our project creates a social focus with a free mobile community cafe/information centre, which offers support and the chance to meet and talk with fellow residents in the same situation. Results and outcomes Starting in 2003 as a voluntary organisation, with just one small caravan, demand for our project service has caused our project to grow enormously. We are now a registered charity with two caravans and a mobilitiy bus visiting around 80 rural communities each year. We now also run Golden Age Fairs, these alone have lead to over 1000 individuals that have been linked into services that have improved their health and wellbeing. "Tis better to light a candle than curse the darkness" We are a forward thinking group of people who strive to support carers of people with dementia and those they care for. The Dementia Support Group started in 1999 as a self-help group of carers of people with dementia. As we were the only group of this nature in Bolton our membership soon grew and we attained registered charity status in 2008. In order to effectively support the carer it was also neccessary that we supported the person with dementia. We therefore sought out many new and innovative therapies and devised some of our own to make the caring experience as positive and enjoyable as possible. The trustees of the charity and members of the management committee are all present and former carers of people with dementia and therefore have first hand knowledge and experience of what caring entails and what support is necessary. Several of our members have also persued professional qualifications in dementia studies to further their knowledge and to keep up to date with new technologies. We intend to be available for all carers of loved ones with dementia.
