Birmingham And Solihull Mental Health Nhs Foundation Trust Charity (UK, 1098659) Browse events

YTD Raised: £842.69

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust serves a culturally and socially diverse population of 1.2 Million people, some of whom live in areas of high deprivation, low income and unemployment. Each year over 50,000 people are seen by our services, from not only the Midlands area but also nationally for some of our more specialist services. In any given year 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem and although the majority will be seen in the local community, the more serious long term cases are referred to the Trust. We operate from 60 sites throughout the Birmingham and Solihull areas to provide a wide range of inpatient, community and specialist mental health services for service users of all ages. From young people aged over 16, right through to providing mental health care and treatment for older adults. Together, these services include elements of rehabilitation, crisis and home treatment, assertive outreach, early intervention, addictions, day services and mental health wellbeing. Whilst our work covers many areas and can often be complex, our aim is simple ‘Improving Mental Health Wellbeing’. The Trusts charitable fund ‘Caring Hands’ directly raises money for the service users, carers and staff of the Trust. Helping to provide the extras that normal NHS funding does not provide, such as equipment, specialised furniture, research and service users events. Your support of our fundraisers is greatly appreciated as the money they raise will significantly improve the experience of the people who use our services.

YTD Raised: £820.00

Cogwheel was set up 24 years ago and since 1988 has successfully provided counselling and psychotherapy support for people in Cambridgeshire living on limited financial resources who cannot easily access counselling services. 1 in 4 people will suffer from mental health problems in the course of a year. Mixed anxiety and depression is the most common mental disorder in Britain. This may be as a result of a traumatic situation but sometimes the causes are less easily identified. Cogwheel is able to provide the early intervention which is shown by research be to be the most effective solution and prevents more complex health and social needs from developing, whatever the cause or reason for the disorder.  Cogwheel has a large team of trained counsellors experienced in various psychotherapeutic disciplines and techniques. All counsellors receive regular supervision to ensure best practice. Our counsellors give their time on a voluntary basis or at subsidised rates so we are able to bring help to substantial numbers of people. In 2011 we provided approximately 3600 counselling sessions to vulnerable people in Cambridgeshire, 50% of whom were referred to us by their GPs. Even though participants are on limited incomes we do ask them to make a donation, whatever they feel able to give. This encourages participants to commit to attending sessions and to engage with the support made available. We have counselling rooms in a number of locations throughout Cambridgeshire.
