Unpaid Carers look after family members and friends who couldn't manage without their support because of illness, frailty, disability or substance misuse problems. Hannah who is a member of the Carers' Support Service team is also a Carer for her grandmother who has Dementia. She has taken on the challenge of running the London Marathon to help raise awareness of Carers in North East Lincolnshire. 3 in 5 of us can expect to become a Carer at some time in our lives. The Carers' Support Centre has been supporting Carers in Northern Lincolnshire for over 27 years. We are here to support Carers throughout their caring journey and beyond. At its simplest, the support we provide gives Carers information and knowledge to help them be independent and take control of their lives. The right information at the right time can be life changing. Stress, depression, loneliness, isolation, are just some experience Carers go through as a result of being a Carer. Over 80% say they experience poor mental and physical health and well-being. We ensure we understand an individual Carers situation so that we can provide specific support to meet their needs. The support we provide is completely free. “The Carers Centre kept me going through my darkest moments. I used to go into the centre in tears and when I left I felt the sun was shining and I felt more hopeful" "The Carers' Support Centre really helped me to accept myself and look at things differently. I am coping better now and feel I have been given the tools to cope. I feel stronger in myself. Your support has been a great help" There are over 7 million Carers in the UK, together saving the UK economy £129 billion every year! Carers selflessly put the needs of other before their own. They are an unsung army of ordinary people who provide more than three quarters of care in the community. We work tirelessly to ensure Carers know that support is available and that they are not alone.

We are based in Hull and offer support locally and nationwide. We are a not for profit registered charity. Our services are offered by qualified counsellors some of which have had personal experience of mental health issues. We offer: Our one to one support mostly takes place at House of Light's premises. For women who are affected by agoraphobia, a fear of open spaces or leaving their house (which is sometimes a feature of PND) we are able to offer home visits locally. Peer support has been proven to be an effective treatment for women with this illness and in some cases preventing depression occuring postnatally. We offer peer support or counselling and women are free to choose which aspect of support they need. Our email and text support allows women to come forward relatively anonymously. Due to the nature of the subject and the taboo that still needlessly surrounds depression, a large amount of women are still afraid to come forward and seek the help that they need and deserve.
