The Dementia Support Group (UK, 1123776) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,785.48

"Tis better to light a candle than curse the darkness" We are a forward thinking group of people who strive to support carers of people with dementia and those they care for. The Dementia Support Group started in 1999 as a self-help group of carers of people with dementia. As we were the only group of this nature in Bolton our membership soon grew and we attained registered charity status in 2008. In order to effectively support the carer it was also neccessary that we supported the person with dementia. We therefore sought out many new and innovative therapies and devised some of our own to make the caring experience as positive and enjoyable as possible. The trustees of the charity and members of the management committee are all present and former carers of people with dementia and therefore have first hand knowledge and experience of what caring entails and what support is necessary. Several of our members have also persued professional qualifications in dementia studies to further their knowledge and to keep up to date with new technologies. We intend to be available for all carers of loved ones with dementia.
