The Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre (UK, 288473) Browse events

YTD Raised: £635.00

The Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre is a registered Charity that seeks to provide care and comfort for animals in need of sanctuary. It mostly attempts to provide assistance for a very wide range of domestic pets but also for any injured or distressed wild animals normally considered part of the United Kingdom’s natural fauna.  The Animal Rescue Centre was founded almost fifty years ago when Mrs Diana Brimblecombe established a sanctuary at her home in Wokingham to provide a continuous haven for homeless and unwanted animals. That sanctuary and its successor at Hurst, has accepted, cared for and re-homed many thousands of domestic animals, representing a multitude of species and breeds. Additionally, care, veterinary treatment and accommodation has been provided for hundreds of distressed or injured wild animals before returning them, wherever possible, to their natural habitat. About a thousand domestic animals and hundreds of battery hens are now re-homed each year and we are continually making every effort to increase the number of animals we assist.  The Charity also offers an advisory service to local schools and youth organisations, attempting to provide young people with advice on the responsibilities of pet ownership and the techniques of animal care, thus, in the long term, hopefully reducing the number of animals obliged to seek sanctuary. We also make visits to care communities to provide the joy of animal contact to people whose circumstances prohibit pet ownership.

The Sussex Horse Rescue Trust (UK, 297576) Browse events

YTD Raised: £605.00

We aim to prevent cruelty and relieve suffering of horses, ponies and donkeys; to provide management and maintenance of facilities for the care of our rescued animals and to extend our work towards education and advice. We believe every horse pony and donkey has the right to be part of a loving family where it will be cared for and loved to the end of its naural life and to this end, where possible, we rehabilitate the animals and, when fully recovered, we loan them out to homes that can provide such an environment - no animal is ever SOLD and all loaned animals are regularly checked. If a loan home is no longer able to look after the animal, for whatever reason, it has to be returned to the Trust. Visitors are encouraged to come along on our open days to meet some of our residents and to read their case histories to understand the plight some of this animals have faced. We continually strive to promote animal welfare by producing free advice sheets and visitors are encouraged to read our information boards and take away our available literature. The Trust relies solely on public donations to support our work in caring for our resident equines and providing much needed sanctuary for those in need.

Celia Cross Greyhound Trust (UK, 1020383) Browse events

YTD Raised: £550.00

The Celia Cross Greyhound Trust rescues, rehabilitates and rehome around 200 abandoned, sick or ill-treated Greyhounds and Lurchers each year at our Sun Valley Kennels based in Guildford, Surrey. We were founded in 1970 after the late Celia Cross found her first abandoned greyhound which had been left to die in a disused barn.  A registered Charity since 1993, we are small, independent and rely entirely on the fundraising activities of our supporters. The Sun Valley Kennels are now in the safe hands of Jane Thompson, who has worked with dogs for well over 20 years. She is supported by her kennel staff, board of trustees and an extensive team of valued volunteers. "I feel blessed that I have the chance to spend everyday living and working with these wonderful dogs, carrying on the legacy that meant so much to Celia and touched the hearts of so many others. For me it is a lifestyle that I wouldn't change for the world, seeing these dogs leave with their tails wagging, off to live in their new forever homes, after such an awful start, rehabilitaion at the kennels is only the start for these wonderful dogs.  “Many people think that rescue centres for dogs are sad and depressing places, but it is always important to remember that these centres play an essential part in today’s society. It is very sad that there are so many dogs looking for new homes; however people should never loses sight of the fact that without rescue centres these dogs would stand no chance of a new home. Thinking of a rescue centre in this light can transform the experience in visiting them, when people think of a visit to a rescue centre as a positive thing, they are more likely to go and visit, and offer their support" We work 365 days a year caring for these dogs, and have to find every penny that we spend. Like everone we are finding the current financial climate very hard to make ends meet, That is why is is crucial that we work as a team to raise as much funds as possible for these fabulous dogs. Jane

Animal Welfare Of Luxor (UK, 1124154) Browse events

YTD Raised: £531.00

Animal Welfare of Luxor (AWOL) is a small charity, registered in the UK under charity number 1124154. AWOL provides free veterinary treatment for the animals of Luxor's west bank in Egypt. This is very poor agricultural area where working animals are often essential for the families to be able to earn a living. By helping these animals you are not only alleviating the animals pain; you are also helping their owners to feed and clothe their families. AWOL provides free veterinary care to the very hard working horses, donkeys and camels, as well as the cats and dogs belonging to poor families in the villages. AWOL also makes and provides free comfortable equine tack and dog collars to replace the unsuitable string, wire and chains which poor owners often use as nothing else is available. AWOL is committed to educating owners about better animal care, often the problems we see are caused by ignorance rather than cruelty. AWOL is the only animal charity based on the west bank. The care we provide is essential to this impoverished area. Without AWOL many animals would be left to suffer uncared for and many families would be even worse off than they are now.  Please help AWOL help the animals of Luxor's west bank and their owners.
