Uganda Humanist Schools Trust (UK) (UK, 1128762) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Uganda Humanist Schools Trust helps schools in Uganda working to offer liberal, secular education to needy children. Founded by Ugandan Humanists and run as charities, the schools are inclusive and welcome children from all religious, social and ethnic backgrounds. We aim to bring about positive improvements in students' day-to-day educational experiences and welfare and, in so doing, to enhance their life chances. Our charity provides scholarships (£120 day, £300 boarding) to enable bright but needy children to attend the schools. We support children who are orphans and from very poor homes. UHST arranges, through local suppliers, the provision of books, science materials, computers and software and other educational resources for art, music, sports and co-curricular activities. Although finding large-scale funds is challenging, we have also helped to enhance the general infrastructure of the schools we support. In recent years we have provided and equipped libraries, science and computer labs, refurbish classrooms and sports fields and built two hostels to provide safe homes for girl students. We also help to ensure that the schools have safe drinking water, clean toilets and electricity, using sustainable solar and hydro-power wherever possible.

BeyondAutism (UK, 1082599) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Autism, the complex lifelong neurological condition which affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them, affects 1 in 100 children in the UK. No one knows what causes it and there is no cure. At BeyondAutism we strive to enrich the lives of children with autism and those of their families using positive educational experiences to provide them with a brighter future. We run an independent special needs school for children of primary and secondary school age (4-17) with autism spectrum disorders. The school offers a structured programme of intensive intervention based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB). Our greatest efforts are devoted to understanding the very individual needs of each child who attends Rainbow School. Through the development of a happy, caring environment the children and staff gain respect for each other, and nurture confidence, independence and self-belief. Fundraising is integral to the development of Rainbow School and BeyondAutism. All pupils placed at Rainbow School are fully funded by their Local Authority. However, LA funding does not cover the capital costs of school buildings or the expansion expenses of training and materials. As a result the charity relies on the generosity of its supporters to allow us to continue to expand and to continue our work with children with autism. We would like to further develop Rainbow School's role as a centre of excellence by increasing the range of our services to providing more training, early intervention and outreach programmes. Please support the valuable work we do to allow us to continue making a difference to the children who need our help. Your support will make a real difference to children with autism and their families.
