Just for KIC@X is a group of friends who annually raise money from clients, friends and family in time to purchase Christmas presents for Kids In Care @ Xmas. The group raise funds then personally go and buy the gifts, wrap them and deliver them to Social Services for delivery before the big day. We contact local Social Services and request a list of those children who through either being in between care and foster homes or just being in poverty will not receive a gift on Christmas Day. The list basically offers us information on age and gender and is totally anonymous. After the fundraising process the group then go out and buy a gift that is appropriate to each person on the list. If the gift needs batteries we sellotape these to the box to ensure that they gift is ready to use on Christmas Day!

Our project, undertaken by the charity Uganda Aid Person to Person under the direction of Marlyn Sommers and with the help of generous sponsors, is to build a school with several classrooms at Bunono in the Kabale area, in the south west of Uganda. Kabale is a rural area with the school at the centre of three parishes which serves 6050 people. The children of the area recognise the importance of education, with some brought from as far away as 15 kilometres, some on bicycles and others who walk the long distance to attend class. About half the children are orphans and school fees are a problem. When school is built, children will come from beyond this area. The school offers basic primary education based on the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports. The children are also taught health education through music, dance and drama, e.g. prevention of HIV infections. The existing crumbling mud hut classrooms are being replaced with structurally solid buildings using local labour. The Uganda Aid Person to Person charity also intends to create an adequate income to sustain and promote quality education to make the Bunono Primary School a model school. More competent and qualified teachers will generate better performance from pupils and increase enrolment.

ClearVision is a charity. We run a national postal lending library of children's books in print and braille, designed to be shared by blind and sighted children and adults reading together. Over a thousand families, schools, nurseries and libraries all over the UK borrow books from us. Our books are enjoyed by children learning braille, most of whom have sighted parents who don't read braille, and couldn't otherwise help their children learn to read. They're also loved by braille-reading parents and grandparents who read them with sighted children. We believe sharing stories is one of the great pleasures of childhood, and should be something everyone can enjoy.

The School has always placed great emphasis on developing the whole student and enabling them to meet their potential through a wide range of academic and extra curricular activities. The Ratcliffe College Foundation (Charity No 1144450) was set up in July 2011 with the objective of ensuring that the School had the financial support to carry out major specific developments over the next 10 years and beyond. The Foundation is separate to the School and provides an independent and transparent vehicle for fundraising and supporters of Ratcliffe. If we are to realise our full ambitions for the School then we continually need to invest in its fabric and to do that we need your support. Thank you.

Welcome to the Turing Trust... The Turing Trust is an African micro-development charity set up in 2009 to develop sustainable rural schools in Ghana. The Turing Trust was set up by James Turing in response to the unfair poverty he saw in a Ghanaian school during his gap year. He was shocked at how the school managed to operate without a single textbook for over 50 students and was compelled to help them. The Trust has a Ghanaian branch (registered in Ghana as the Turing Foundation) which carries out several activities involving the school. The schools name is the Afoako ICCES (Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills) and is located in a small village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. By raising awareness and funding in the UK this will enable the Trust to support the local, community-led ICCES who give children the education, support and inspiration they need to transform their lives. We fundraise through our enthusiastic supporters in our local communities to help the schools and wonderful communities who have made such a strong impression on the founding members of the Turing Trust. With all of this support we are able to make huge changes to the lives of the children we work with in Ghana. Since the Trust began we have enabled 20 extra students to gain an education each year by constructing a girls dormitory, we have built and furnished a computer lab enabling a whole community to access to the digital world, donated over £30,000 and 55 computers to our associated schools in Ghana and most importantly ensured that hundreds of students have been able to gain an education.
