YTD Raised: £263.00Freedom to Learn is a UK based charity which works to provide the opportunity of education to children from some of the remotest regions of the Himalayas and South Asia. A major part of our work is in Nepal where we work with 13 state schools. All of them, and the communities they serve, were badly damaged by the 2015 earthquakes, 82% of homes were destroyed. While the world’s attention wanes young people in Nepal inspire us with their pragmatic, positive and energetic approach to making their country a better place. Supporting their dedication and recovery will inspire them in turn. FtL is now focusing on re-building livelihoods, homes and schools. In the face of such sorrow and devastation there is now new and genuine optimism. There is a wealth of opportunity for re-building local stable micro-economies, creating better quality school environments and earthquake proof, environmentally friendly, economically sound homes and schools for future generations.This would not be possible without the understanding, generosity and action of our fab supporters - THANK YOU!

Our Vision: To equip the majority of the school leavers with the tools they need to become productive members of the society. Our Mission: To provide a small-group environment for Sentinel Primary School learners who have fallen behind academically in the key areas of English, Afrikaans and Maths as to enable them to meet the required academic standards, build self-confidence and motivate them to stay in school and participate in afterschool programmes. In the years that it has been in existence, ABC for Life has equipped literally thousands of children who would otherwise have failed with the skills to succeed at their education. These are children who, without ABC for Life’s intervention, would in all likelihood have dropped out of school functionally illiterate, innumerate and unemployable. They would have swelled the ranks of the unemployed. Not only would they not have been in a position to make a meaningful and productive contribution to society, they would, as experience in the community of Hangberg has shown, cost the country dearly, either as recipients of government hand-outs, or as career criminals. ABC for Life gives these children a foundation upon which they can build their lives. It gives them the skills to complete their schooling. It gives them a vision for their lives

YTD Raised: £235.00The Yerbury Discovery Playground Project, YDPP, is an exciting initiative led by pupils, staff, parents and carers at Yerbury Primary School in Islington, North London. Collectively, we have set ourselves the ambitious task of redeveloping our tired and out-dated playground through innovative, collaborative design for the benefit of our school and our wider community. To fund our new vision we need to raise £250,000. Over the past year the entire school has participated in a consultation process, which has delivered an inspiring masterplan for transforming the playground areas into a series of outdoor zones for discovery, play, creativity and learning. We are now hard at work staging fundraising events and initiatives and talking to funders about how they can help us to realise the Yerbury Discovery Playground Project. The focus of our next fundraising drive will be the Mind & Muscle zone which is costed at £50,000. The Yerbury Discovery Playground Project (YDPP) is the latest and largest fundraising initiative to be launched by the Yerbury Home School Association (YHSA).
