APIE is an international educational charity. We work in partnership with schools, governments and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to develop centres of teaching and learning excellence. We envision a world in which all children, regardless of background or circumstance, have the opportunity to receive high quality education. Our mission is to support educational projects in the developing world and to provide children with a high quality education that will enable them to shape their futures, and the futures of their communities. Our Challenge. Much progress has been made in creating access to education across the world. The challenge now is to ensure that the quality of the education children receive equips them with the skills to shape their future. In contexts where large classes, minimal resources and mainly theoretical based training are prevalent, APIE aims to provide models and opportunities for teachers to learn and grow alongside more experienced peers and gain the practical experience they need to inspire the next generation. Our pilot project, Umubano Primary School in Kigali, Rwanda opened in January 2013 to provide high quality education to the local population. Now, with over 200 students, Umubano is rapidly becoming recognised an education hub that delivers exemplary education. APIE supports Umubano to reach its full potential as a primary school - one which upholds and supports best teaching practice and provides continuing professional development for teachers. Our scholarship fund supports the poorest families to access education. There are 57 million children in the world who are not in school. 30 of these live within walking distance of Umubano Primary School. We care passionately about inclusion, no child should be left outside the school gates. We need your help to get these 30 children off the streets, and into the classroom. Education has the power the change lives- to make dreams a reality. Please support our vision and help us bring sustainable change to Rwanda's children and their teachers.

Five Acre Wood School is a day District Special School for children and young people with Profound, Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, aged from 4-19. As a special school, we are fortunate to have amazingly inspirational students and a passionate and dedicated staff team who are committed to supporting the students to achieve their own individual potentials. We are very proud of our school and the wonderful things that happen here. However, where we are not so fortunate is with the facilities and equipment for the students, and this is where the charity comes in. Our charity provides educational and recreational opportunities for our children and young people with special needs and disabilities, over and above that which is statutorily provided. We raise money for specific projects that enhance our provision for our students and offer them the best possible opportunities that they so deserve. At the moment we are trying to raise funds to purchase play equipment for the students, as there really isn’t very much here in the way of this, and what there is, is in poor condition. This not only supports the physical and social development of the children; it is also fun! Our other current focus is on communication aids to help those students who are unable to speak. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this, as many of our students are unable to communicate on even a basic level, such as asking for food or drink, or indicating a preference of one thing over another. We aim to fundraise for specialist communication aids that will offer these students the opportunity to develop these skills.
