Festival Fringe Society Ltd (UK, SC002995) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest open-access arts festival in the world. It started in 1947 when eight theatre groups decided to perform in Edinburgh during the inaugural Edinburgh International Festival, despite not having received an invitation to participate. Who could have guessed what it would lead to? Once it became clear that the Fringe was here to stay, the Festival Fringe Society was formed to support the incredible collective of performances that takes over Edinburgh in August. The policy that remains at the core of our festival is that anyone can take part without being subject to artistic vetting or selection. To this day we are proud to include in our programme anyone with a story to tell and a venue willing to host them. Today, the Festival Fringe Society’s mission is to advise, support and encourage everyone taking part in the Fringe, to provide comprehensive information and ticketing services for participants and the public and to continue to raise the profile and promote the entire Edinburgh Festival Fringe throughout the world. Over the 64 years since the Fringe started it has nurtured incredible talent like Emma Thompson, Derek Jacobi, Graham Norton and Eddie Izzard. We want to continue to nurture and discover new international talent across the whole spectrum of the arts. But we need your support to ensure that Edinburgh continues to host the greatest show on earth each August. If you would like to help ensure the future of the Fringe, you can support the Festival Fringe Society by giving a donation.

Whiteley Village provides almshouse accomodation for older people of limited means. Founded over 100 years ago by the legacy of William Whiteley, the Village has more than 250 cottages, along with a shop & post office, bar/club and village hall, bowling green, 9-hole golf course and putting green, two churches, allotments and fishing lake. There is a wide range of social and activity clubs (from Art to Whist), a bus service, and outings arranged on a regular basis. The majority of the Villagers live independent lives, as singles or couples, in the magnificent Grade II listed cottages but the Whiteley Homes Trust also provides a Welfare Service to all Villagers. The Village also has a Care Centre and an Extra-Care Facility (both of which have been rated 'Excellent' by the CQC) and can provide domiciliary care. The Cottages now need modernisation to meet today's living standards. We have already spent c. £28m, improving six of the eight sections: we need to raise £6m more to complete the work. Please be generous in your support and help us to provide for the next generation of older people who cannot afford their own homes. Thank you.

Crouch End Festival Chorus (UK, 1110790) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Crouch End Festival Chorus is one of Britain's leading choruses, known for our versatility and adventurous repertoire, ranging from classical music to specially commissioned pieces and performances with rock musicians including Ray Davies and Noel Gallagher. Our singers come from all walks of life, united by a love of singing. Crouch End Festival Chorus has a reputation for bold choral singing. It has always taken an adventurous approach to performance and to the repertoire, making emotional connections with audiences through the power of music. The choir values its roots in north London where it was founded but increasingly performs on national and international stages as a symphonic choir.  Your support helps us to develop new audiences and new singers. With your help, we can continue to commission new pieces, extending the repertoire and helping to keep choral music alive. We are currently raising funds to commission a new work by James McCarthy, composer of 17 Days which Crouch End Festival Chorus premiered to critical acclaim and an overwhelming audience response in 2012. If you would like to support this commission, check out our fundraising page  http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=CommissioningJamesMcCarthy Your gift will reach not just 150 enthusiastic singers, but the hundreds of people who come to our concerts, workshops and other performances each year. Thank you!

The Healthy Living Club (UK, 1154130) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Healthy Living Club is a charity based in the London Borough of Lambeth that promotes the wellbeing of people with dementia and their carers. Dementia is one of the most common causes of disability among the old. It affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning ability, language, behaviour, mobility and continence. Yet, the Healthy Living Club is a happy place and is a “lifeline” for our members. We gather in the communal areas of a local extra-care scheme to participate, together with the residents, in activities that are both healthy and fun. Over the last 12 months, our Wednesday Club alone has provided over 250 hours of activities (such as keep-fit, music-making, drama, art and singing) that have kept us healthy and joyful. Every year about 90 people benefit. An independent study, using tools of measurement developed by the New Economic Foundation, found that the 30K we spent in a year produced £500k of "social value". The charity started with a Wednesday gathering that at present accommodates an average of 43 members each week, the majority being people with dementia. Due to a long waiting list and to meet the needs of those who wouldn't be able to take part in a larger group, we started another Club on Mondays in the same premises that at the moment has 12 participants. We also run a regular Sunday “Crafternoon” and monthly carers groups. In addition, we try to promote a more positive image of people with dementia nationally, mainly through making good use of social media. Our Clubs include carers, older adults with long-term conditions other than dementia and volunteers as equal members. We all engage in activities that meet the needs of people with dementia, but that all our other members enjoy too. Our Clubs are not services. They are communities within which there is no "us" and "them". We replace loneliness with sense of belonging to a community within which the sense of ownership is shared. Although we are based in a spectacular building, we work at grass roots levels in the heart of local communities with all ages and abilities, using music to increase aspiration and confidence in young people and adults throughout the North East. Many people in the North East live in communities in the top 10% of the most deprived in the UK with few opportunities to access a brighter future. Some of the groups we regularly work with to provide these vulnerable and marginalised communities with support include: Young people Not in Employment, Education or Training; refugees and asylum seekers, Older people, gifted and talented young musicians, non-professional musicians, special needs adults and young people. The transformation experienced by participants can be substantial. Example: Michael had struggled with mental health issues, been criminalised and made homeless. He has now recovered - in part due to the support he received through DJ work with us. One of our music leaders provided him with one-to-one tuition, and supported him in group learning situations. His confidence has grown significantly and the psychiatrists working with him report that his mental health has improved significantly. helps us provide resources for workshops in the community pays for a Teaching Resource Pack pays for a class of children to tour  Sage Gateshead
