The David Ashwell Foundation (UK, 1121783) Browse events

YTD Raised: £6,051.98

The David Ashwell Foundation supports three activities, one of which is to support research into Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia (ACD).  Alveolar capillary dysplasia is a very rare congenital malformation involving abnormal development of the capillary vascular system around the alveoli of the lungs. Babies with ACD may appear normal at birth but within minutes or hours they develop incurable respiratory distress . There is no treatment for ACD and as it is so rare, there has been little research into this devastating and fatal illness. The David Ashwell Foundation was set up in memory of Brian David Ashwell.  In March 2011 his first grandson, named David Fazlollah Upeska Ashwell, was born and 48 hours after birth became seriously ill.  David died aged only 15 days old from ACD.     These funds will only be used to support research into this rare and fatal disease.  Money raised will be added to the Restricted ACD Research Fund at the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) to fund the next ACD research grant. For further information on ACD please see the Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia Association (ACDA) website.

The Zak Vali Foundation (UK, 1168999) Browse events

YTD Raised: £5,700.75

The Zak Vali Foundation started up in memory of Zak Vali who sadly passed away with cancer in 2015. During this difficult time we realised that whilst there are many charities well established to provide emotional support as well as information in this difficult time, there are none set up to provide financial support for the costs of a funeral when a child passes away due to cancer. Often when a child takes ill with cancer, the family must dedicate all of their time for caring for their child and taking them to and from hospital. During this period it can be very difficult for the parents to find work which make finances an extra stress for them to juggle.  If the child sadly passes away, parents are often left grieving and financially unable to pay for a fitting send off for their loved one. The Zak Vali Foundation are the only charity in the UK that provide financial support to relieve the financial burden that saying goodbye to a child may bring. Our referrals come directly from the carers that have been working personally with the child and family and therefore know their needs best. It is our belief that nobody should have to worry about being able to afford a fitting send off for their child. And it is our aim to ensure that where possible we will ensure that every child that passes away due to cancer has a funeral they deserve.
