The Avenues Bicycle Project is a small, not for profit organisation that recycles bicycles across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire in the following ways: 1) Send one container of up to 400 refurbished bikes a year to West Africa. We have sent over 1600 bikes since 2012. Once the bikes reach West Africa they are distributed to farmers, health workers, school teachers, students and school children who are living, working and studying in rural areas2) Before shipping a bike to West Africa, we send it to HMP Humber or HMP Lindholme bike repair workshops. This means that prisoners can have a day time occupation and learn bike repair and maintenance skills and we get a fully refurbished bike for West Africa3) Bicycles that are not suitable for refurbishment at the prisons are given to Push Iron, a Youth Development Service project. The bikes are broken for spares and young people build their own bikes from scratch - and achieve a Youth Development Award in bike maintenance skillsPlease donate to support our cause£3 pays for the recycling of one bicycle£10 pays van diesel costs for one day£50 pays for one day's collection van hire Charity No: 1163510 Find out more Website http://www.avenuesbicycleproject.org/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/The-Avenues-Bicycle-Project-282925905084280/
Making the social and educational benefits of music accessible to hildren, young people and adults of the London Borough of Newham. Newham Music Trust (NMT) was established to promote music education in schools and communities throughout Newham. We work with thousands of young people each year delivering music tuition and educational projects in schools, colleges, community centres and other places of cultural importance. Fundraising helps NMT to ensure access to low cost and free outstanding music education for many children and young people every year. Extension Activities: Poverty and unemployment is worse in Newham, the second most disadvantaged borough, than almost anywhere else in the UK. It is widely known that where some families in deprived areas may be unable to provide stable and comfortable living conditions for their children, youths can lack direction, motivation and confidence. In addition to our high quality music education, NMT projects encourage independency and equip young people with life and social skills, reducing risk of unemployment and poverty in their futures. Newham Music Hub: NMT is Music Hub Leader for Newham – appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) and supported by Arts Council England in 2012 as part of the government’s National Plan for Music Education. The Music Hub partnership galvanizes the resources of music, educational, arts, cultural and community organisations, evaluating the needs of the borough and targeting the areas of greatest impact. It signposts services for young people to discover the many different learning environments, progression and career pathways across a diverse range of music activities throughout the South East.
