YTD Raised: £245.00

RIBA’s Student Hardship Fund is designed to make architecture accessible to all. We at RIBA are strong believers in that no matter what your background, if you have a passion to be an architect you should be able to fulfil it. It now costs an architecture student around £88,000 to complete their education. This means that talented, ambitious and driven young people are being ousted from the profession due to financial hardship. It also means that Architecture is losing out, from a lack of diversity, versatility and imagination that comes from professions that are truly open to all. At RIBA we want to fix this, relieve the debt of young architects and make the profession accessible for all to flourish in. The Student Hardship Fund was set up in 1997. To date we have helped hundreds students, with grants of over £85,000 being awarded last year alone. Every penny that comes in to the Student Hardship Fund goes directly back out to help architecture students across the UK. If you’re an established architect, a relative of a studying one or just want to see young people excel in their field without the constraints and worries of debt then please donate to RIBA’s Student Hardship Fund today. Together we can make sure the architects of the future are helped along their way.

Friends Of St Marcellins Children (UK, 1143214) Browse events

YTD Raised: £245.00

Friends of St Marcellin's Children supports the 77 vulnerable children residing in St Marcellin Children's Village, Harare, Zimbabwe. The village receives extremely limited support from the government and the responsibility of providing the children with a stable and happy home rests on Norman and Sybil Macdonald an elderly couple from South Africa and host of well wishers like us. We support provision of education, nutrition, healthcare and leisure activities in a family environment. The children range from 1-17 years of age and we have been holding their hands through their turbulent lives since early 2005. Our UK charity is run by volunteers and takes nothing for administration costs - it all goes to the children and sustainable village projects such as chicken rearing, kitchen gardening, fish breeding and now their very own primary school. Trustees are in regular contact with the village and do annual visits to ensure appropriate spending of all funds and to give personal support. Our three specific objectives are as follows: supporting the provision of education; supporting the provision of health and nutrition care and to promote social and psychological development for the orphans and vulnerable children in the care of St Marcellin Children's Village.

Freewheelers Theatre And Media Limited (UK, 1142638) Browse events

YTD Raised: £230.00

Freewheelers provides a unique combination of community service and artistic excellence. We run workshops in drama, dance and film-making for disabled and non-disabled adults and children, and perform in theatres and schools, bringing together all sections of the community. We involve all abilities, all ages and all forms of performing art, as well as media. Nationally there is a large number of organisations creating theatre with learning disabled people, but very few for those who also have physical disabilities. So our company gives people who would be unable to take part in the performing arts the opportunity to do so. This gives them the confidence to go further, leading not only to enhanced quality of life, but also reducing illness and creating opportunities for future employment. We currently have 75 disabled people attending our workshops, 7 of whom come to us as part of their school curriculum. We provide a very cost-effective service, as we rent our rehearsal premises very cheaply, and our office premises are donated free by two trustees. Much of the administrative work is done free of charge by trustees and other volunteers. However, transport for our disabled people is increasingly expensive, as are the costs of putting on performances. Freewheelers performances are ambitious and innovative, and we were awarded three Inspire Marks by the Cultural Olympiad. We have been told by our users, their families and care workers that we provide a life-line. Please help us to continue doing so!

Travelling Light Theatre Company (UK, 1065012) Browse events

YTD Raised: £230.00

Who are we? We are a Bristol-based theatre company and since 1984 weve gained a fantastic reputation for creating inspiring shows for young audiences. We rely on help from individuals to support the work that we do through buying tickets to see our shows, donations and by volunteering on our projects.  Their support is absolutely invaluable to us.So why should you support us?Our touring shows are the visible part of our work - what isnt in the public eye is the massive amount of participation work going on.  Its this work which needs financial support. Our projects with young people who are disengaged from society, the youth theatre groups that we run and community engagement projects, all need support. For some young people, getting involved in our youth theatre has had a profound effect on their ability to manage their feelings and in particular, anger.  We provide affordable experiences so that no child is excluded because of financial hardship.  As one young person said recently - It’s cheaper so more people can join.If you can support us, please make a donation, no matter how small.Thank you.

World Heart Beat Music Academy Ltd (UK, 1139579) Browse events

YTD Raised: £215.00

The World Heart Beat Music Academy has been built on the success of the 51st State Band and rooted in ‘expanding the art of the possible’ for young people through music. At this most exciting stage, we are inviting you to become a "Friend of the World Heart Beat Music Academy". Our vision is to create an inspiring place where children of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds can come and play music. We aim to give children and young people, many of whom would never have access to musical education, the opportunity to learn music within a structured programme, alongside other youngsters, and under the guidance of committed and inspirational musicians. We have found that the power of music lifts children out of isolation and disadvantage. Learning and playing music enables young people to feel that they are part of something; something that nobody can take away from them. This confidence translates to other areas of their life, giving them the freedom to make choices and to be happy, successful adults and these life skills have never been more important than in the current global economic situation. “When you have a goal and then you finally get it you feel so happy, it just feels so great. I can’t really imagine my life without the flute. I would be influenced by bad things, I would have no motivation, and I would have nothing really, yes nothing” 14 year old 51st State Band Member As a Friend of the World Heart Beat Music Academy, you will enjoy: Opportunity to attend open rehearsal evenings held at the school; A newsletter; Priority bookings for concerts; Other benefits as sourced by the Committee and Trustees Membership costs £25.00 per year and you can make additional donations if you wish.
