(UK, 1099385) Lost Chord is an innovative charity dedicated to promoting the well being of people who struggle to live with dementia by providing interactive musical sessions in residential care homes and day centres. We operate around the UK in: Highly trained professional musicians produce a varied programme designed to stimulate responses from people living with dementia who maybe unable to talk or communicate in any way. OUR IMPACT: This helps to confirm clinical evidence that there are certain areas of the brain associated with music that remain potentially responsive, when all other areas have deteriorated. This inspires us to continue making a positive impact. There are over 700,000 people diagnosed with dementia in the UK. By 2025 this figure will rise to 1 million! The ultimate objective of the Pram Race is to raise money for local causes, but having fun in the process. In fact participating in the event is quite simple – all you have to pay is an entry fee and ask family and friends to sponsor you to run the two thirds of a mile from Master Park to The Bell in Old Oxted High Street, however……you do need to push a pram in fancy dress and stop at each of the seven licensed premises on the way, where you have to down a drink as fast as you can! Henry Surtees was killed in a freak accident, through no fault of his own, at Brands Hatch on 19 July 2009. He was just 18, and one of the best young drivers of his era. Burnley Youth Theatre offers young people the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. We undertake lots of charitable activities to support our work. We currently have two events you can support through this site. Firstly, a lot of our workers are about to undertake a 10k run in Burnley. A powered wheelchair gives even a severely disabled person anindependence that we able-bodied take so much for granted; it’s life-changing.MidasPlus have donated 5 in the last 2 years. Taking 50 mentally and physicallydisadvantaged adults on holiday is an incredible undertaking but just buyingice-creams cost £100! MidasPlus raises half the total cost. Carpeting for ahard up mum with twins at the crawling stage, a bathroom for an elderly manstruggling to look after himself, renovating the hairdressing facility at anold people’s home and making a garden safe for a young child with Down’ssyndrome are all projects MidasPlus has fulfilled. We’ve funded fencing atHeathrow Farm who give disabled people riding lessons, donated scooters toShopmobility and a Shower Bed to Linden Bennett School for their disabledchildren’s hydrotherapy pool. YTD Raised: £375.00The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is one of Scotland’s five National Performing Arts Companies, and is internationally recognised as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. Formed in 1974 with a commitment to serve the Scottish community, it is also one of Scotland’s foremost cultural ambassadors. The Orchestra performs throughout Scotland, including annual tours of the Scottish Highlands and Islands and South of Scotland, and appears regularly at the East Neuk, St Magnus and Aldeburgh Festivals, the BBC Proms and closes the annual Edinburgh Festivals with their massive fireworks concert with the EIF and sponsor Virgin Money. Its busy touring schedule has recently included many European countries as well as India and the USA. The Orchestra receives support from the Scottish Government. The SCO has also led the way in music education with a unique programme of projects through our Education and Outreach department SCO Connect. Aimed at introducing and inspiring the people of Scotland with classical music, SCO Connect brings music to life in fun and interesting ways - ranging from activities with infants, children and families to working with amateur and aspiring musicians. The Orchestra enjoys close relationships with many leading composers and has commissioned more than a hundred new works, including pieces by Composer Laureate Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Judith Weir, Sally Beamish, Karin Rehnqvist, Lyell Cresswell, Hafliði Hallgrímsson, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Stuart MacRae, the late Edward Harper and Martin Suckling, who is now SCO Associate Composer. The Orchestra broadcasts regularly and has a discography now exceeding 150 recordings. CDs are available by calling 0131 557 6800 or online at shop.sco.org.uk. We work with rural people in Sussex to make sure their voice is heard locally, regionally and nationally. As a result we often step in when there is a risk that services needed by rural people could easily be forgotten. AirS is currently running a major campaign to improve support and funding for the many village halls in East and West Sussex. This is its 'Heart of the Village' campaign about which more details can be found on the AirS' website.
