Parkinson's EQUIP is a new charity helping people with Parkinson's who wish to improve their quality of life. Anyone with Parkinson's who wishes to become involved in either an arts or sports activity, but who is limited by cost can apply to us for a grant. We know that these activities are particularly helpful to people with Parkinson's. Involvement of this kind can only be of benefit to the person concerned and indirectly, those around them. We are also considering funding activity groups for people with Parkinsons' as this approach has the added benefits of economy of scale and social interaction. A great way to support us is to buy a copy of this high quality book of poetry and art written by three people who know. Chapter and Illuminating Verse is available simply by following the link to our website just on the left of this page. Remember, you get an excellent book and ALL the money goes to the charity. That's win-win. Our Secretary Tom Davenport and his daughter Grace completed the 300km Robert Louis Stephenson Trail in southern France. See their blog here and why not sponsor them - they did it for EQUIP.

YTD Raised: £670.40

The David Ashwell Foundation supports three activities, one of which is to support research into Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia (ACD).  Alveolar capillary dysplasia is a very rare congenital malformation involving abnormal development of the capillary vascular system around the alveoli of the lungs. Babies with ACD may appear normal at birth but within minutes or hours they develop incurable respiratory distress . There is no treatment for ACD and as it is so rare, there has been little research into this devastating and fatal illness. The David Ashwell Foundation was set up in memory of Brian David Ashwell.  In March 2011 his first grandson, named David Fazlollah Upeska Ashwell, was born and 48 hours after birth became seriously ill.  David died aged only 15 days old from ACD.     These funds will only be used to support research into this rare and fatal disease.  Money raised will be added to the Restricted ACD Research Fund at the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) to fund the next ACD research grant. For further information on ACD please see the Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia Association (ACDA) website.

Cash for Kids was established in 1996 as the official charity of TFM Radio & Magic 1170, and our aim is to raise money to make a long term difference to, and enhance the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children and young people in the South Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire Region. 2012 saw our most successful year to date, with the Charity raising over £900,000 and improving the lives of over 30,000 children. Because the majority of our costs are supported by Bauer Radio and TFM, Cash for Kids are able to contribute an amount of least 80p in each £1 to our causes, significantly higher than the industry average of just 64p. So why not donate today and help our local children enjoy their 2012? As well as supporting local groups and individuals, we also build partnerships and offer financial grants to hundreds of local charities. In 2012 alone, Cash for Kids worked with the Corner House Youth Project, Harbour Children’s Outreach, Highfield Children’s Home, Whizz-Kids, Daisy Chain & Barnardos. Cash for Kids receives strong support from our greatly cherished Patrons; Steve Gibson (Chairman of Middlesbrough Football Club), Patrick Monohan, Nationally adored Teesside Comedian, Pam Royal (Tyne Tees News). And we can’t forget Courage the Cat, our Charity mascot who brings us good luck in all of our endeavours. Thank you, and all of the TFM Radio and Magic 1170 listeners, for all of your support in helping us to change the lives of so many children. In 2013, building and strengthening relationships with local companies and charities is a priority for Cash for Kids, with our Corporate Hero’s initiative providing the perfect way for organisations to get involved. This year, we aim to achieve even more than the last, going one step further in reaching even more local children that need our help. So if you're considering any fundraising activities this year, be it large or small, then do it for your local communities children, do it for Cash for Kids.
