danceaid (UK, 1140749) Browse events

YTD Raised: £650.00

danceaid transforming lives through dance danceaid raises funds through dance and other activities to transform the lives of disadvantaged children. danceaid's mission is to unite the UK and beyond in a movement for change to help orphaned, poor, and disabled children in the developing world, and here in the UK. danceaid's life-saving programmes deliver vital resources to children who receive no assistance from elsewhere.  Without your support, innocent children are left vulnerable to hunger, homelessness, hopelessness and neglect.  Your support can transform an existence of poverty and suffering to a life of hope and opportunity. #BeTheChange  :)  #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork  :) Manila, capital of the Philippines, is just one of many cities in which danceaid works to tackle child poverty... If you were born on the streets of Manila, capital of the Philippines, then right now you would be living on pagpag. To create pagpag a resourceful entrepreneur will pay the owner of a local food franchise (say a KFC) for their rubbish. Late one night they will be given bin liners full of all sorts. They will root through the bags and find the bits of eaten chicken and strip tiny traces of meat that customers have missed, wiping off the other rubbish, the flies and ignoring the smell (it’s hot in Manila – food goes off quickly). They will gather a few plastic bags full of scraps (mainly bone) and take it away with them. Now, can you imagine your parent buying this food the following day and feeding it to you? It’s already hot by the time they’ve bought it, and this is the 2nd day it’s been left in the sweltering heat… The reality is that you’d be lucky if you have a parent to buy it for you. Many of the street children are orphans and will have been out all day begging to earn enough for a single pagpag meal that they’ll split between 3 or 4 of them. They live in boxes. They can’t afford to go to school as they have to earn the money for their share of pagpag. They get ill a lot. In a couple of years, if not sooner, then they will very likely have suffered violence, exploitation and possibly sexual assault too.

TFMs Cash for Kids (UK, 1122062TFM) Browse events

YTD Raised: £624.40

Cash for Kids was established in 1996 as the official charity of TFM Radio & Magic 1170, and our aim is to raise money to make a long term difference to, and enhance the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children and young people in the South Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire Region. 2012 saw our most successful year to date, with the Charity raising over £900,000 and improving the lives of over 30,000 children. Because the majority of our costs are supported by Bauer Radio and TFM, Cash for Kids are able to contribute an amount of least 80p in each £1 to our causes, significantly higher than the industry average of just 64p. So why not donate today and help our local children enjoy their 2012? As well as supporting local groups and individuals, we also build partnerships and offer financial grants to hundreds of local charities. In 2012 alone, Cash for Kids worked with the Corner House Youth Project, Harbour Children’s Outreach, Highfield Children’s Home, Whizz-Kids, Daisy Chain & Barnardos. Cash for Kids receives strong support from our greatly cherished Patrons; Steve Gibson (Chairman of Middlesbrough Football Club), Patrick Monohan, Nationally adored Teesside Comedian, Pam Royal (Tyne Tees News). And we can’t forget Courage the Cat, our Charity mascot who brings us good luck in all of our endeavours. Thank you, and all of the TFM Radio and Magic 1170 listeners, for all of your support in helping us to change the lives of so many children. In 2013, building and strengthening relationships with local companies and charities is a priority for Cash for Kids, with our Corporate Hero’s initiative providing the perfect way for organisations to get involved. This year, we aim to achieve even more than the last, going one step further in reaching even more local children that need our help. So if you're considering any fundraising activities this year, be it large or small, then do it for your local communities children, do it for Cash for Kids.
